Re: Bootable Backup?

2017-10-14 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Blitto,

Short answer... Yes! Carbon Copy Cloner 5 is fully supported.

“High Sierra is here. APFS is here. We're ready for both, and we've got you
covered. APFS, HFS, encrypted, not encrypted, FileVault – whatever your source
or destination, we support all of these combinations in CCC 5. We've tested so
many different scenarios, we put the results into a chart to keep track of
them.”
CCC can clone your High Sierra SSD to an SSD or an HDD that is formatted as
either HFS or APFS.
CCC can restore an HFS-formatted High Sierra backup to an APFS or HFS volume.
CCC can make bootable APFS backups.
CCC can make bootable HFS backups.
You can mix and match APFS and HFS sources and destinations – CCC will make the
destination bootable.

Bootable Backup?

2017-10-14 Thread Rod Blitvich
Hi
Ronni’s great Upgrade advice includes creating a bootable backup.

Is Carbon Copy Cloner 5 the idiot-proof solution for this?
How long will it take?
Thanks
Blitto

Partitioning and bootable backup

2012-04-27 Thread Merv Bond
As mentioned on another thread I have purchased a - oop! sorry, hit the
wrong button!!

As mentioned on another thread I have purchased a 2TB WD My Book Studio
with Firewire 800. If I partition it into two 1TB parts can neither, one
only or each partition be a bootable backup?
Comment appreciated.
Merv

Hi Merv,

Yes, you can have as many bootable partitions as will fit on your drive. Format
the partitions as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and use Carbon Copy Cloner or
SuperDuper to make bootable copies.

Cheers,
Carlo

Re: Partitioning and bootable backup

Hi Merv,

Just adding to Carlo’s reply.

In order to boot from an Intel based or PPC based Mac, you may need to change
the partition map.
The bootable partition Map for PPC is (APM) Apple Partition Map which is
Apples default.
The Intel based Macs require (GUID) “GUID Partition Table to be bootable.

Cheers,
Ronni

Thanks Ronni, Carlo and Bob.
From your responses I gather that having made a GUID Partition Table I
must then format each partition as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Have I got it right?

Re: Partitioning and bootable backup

2012-04-27 Thread Ronda Brown
Yes Merv,

Mac OS Extended (Journaled) GUID Partition Table

If you need anymore information I have on my website a PDF I created “How To:
Format Partition External Drive for Time Machine”.
Even though you will not be using Time Machine to backup to this drive as Time
Machine is NOT bootable.

After you format and Partition your External Drive you will use Carbon Copy
Cloner or SuperDuper to create bootable backups.

If you wish to download my tutorial, you can find it at http://ronnibrown.net/
under page 'Format Partition External Drive For Time Machine'.
