If the non-generic keyboard is compatible with your iMac, you should be able to
press any key to wake the iMac.
To wake your iMac from sleep, do one of the following:
Press any key on the keyboard.
Click the mouse.
Press the power button on the back of your iMac.
Press any button on the optional

Thanks for your response. Any key (or mouse click) did not wake the Mac.
But problem probably solved - I'll go through another auto-sleep cycle to prove
it.
The keyboard is from the people who brought us the operating system whereby you
need to press the Start icon to close down
How can I wake my iMac from sleep with a non-standard keyboard? I replaced my
iMac Bluetooth aluminium keyboard and Magic Mouse with a standard wireless USB
keyboard/mouse combo. I still have the Bluetooth Preferences setting allow
Bluetooth devices to wake this computer checked.
