Changing Apple ID for an iMac
Hi folks, In the last 24 hours I have brought my daughter's iMac from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I was concerned about how to do this on her iMac at first because she has never had an Apple ID. So first I set up an Apple ID for her. However when I started the update her iMac threw up my Apple ID so I continued using that (just to make things easier). Obviously I have used mine on her iMac in the past. It is now all done. But when I then updated a few more things for her my Apple ID popped up again each time. So my question is:- Now that I have set up her own Apple ID, how do I get her's to pop up when updates, etc are required. I have used her's to set up iCloud so that should be OK. But is there some way of adjusting things so her's is automatically requested (rather than mine) ? Hi Ronda, I am pretty sure that when my Apple ID popped up for the upgrade, my Login was there but greyed out. That's why I couldn't change it. I could be stuck with it now I guess ! You've got a problem now. In the App Sore application, you can go Store Sign in... before you purchase anything. This gives you the chance to change to your daughter's login. The confusion arises from the fact the the App Store remembers your previous login. Because you started the download without changing the login details, your daughter's copy of Mountain Lion is forever linked to your account. Fortunately, for future purchases, you still have the option of signing in with her account before buying anything more. This change will be remembered in future logins until it is changed again. Armed with this knowledge, you should have no trouble with downloading Mavericks for her when it is released (perhaps as as soon as Wednesday!)... I had this same problem with my husband's iPhone: I agreed to do the management of it on my computer (he steadfastly refuses to learn anything about computers). I tried to register the iPhone in his name, using a different Apple ID and a different email address, but the Apple website simply wouldn't accept that. To this day, it remains 'mine' in the eyes of Apple. He never buys apps or music, so that isn't a problem. There must be quite a few families that share one computer, so they must face this problem all the time. Why doesn't Apple make it a bit easier? Thank you Peter, I am hoping to change this when Mavericks comes along soon. But if I can't then it's not that important. I must have used mine on hers some time ago because she has no credit card.
