does your mini dv camera has an i-link (mini firewire connection) you have the cable firewire/i-link?? put you camera into vcr mode, load an empty tape, load fcp check if the pic on screen appears in the camera screen then start the record on camera (must be vcr mode!!!) if you get flickers
