As mentioned on another thread I have purchased a - oop! sorry, hit the wrong button!! As mentioned on another thread I have purchased a 2TB WD My Book Studio with Firewire 800. If I partition it into two 1TB parts can neither, one only or each partition be a bootable backup? Comment

Hi Merv, Just adding to Carlo’s reply. In order to boot from an Intel based or PPC based Mac, you may need to change the partition map. The bootable partition Map for PPC is (APM) Apple Partition Map which is Apples default. The Intel based Macs require (GUID) “GUID Partition Table to be

Yes Merv, Mac OS Extended (Journaled) GUID Partition Table If you need anymore information I have on my website a PDF I created “How To: Format Partition External Drive for Time Machine”. Even though you will not be using Time Machine to backup to this drive as Time Machine is NOT bootable.
