WordPress.com should be an excellent option, it provides free hosting (from
the US) for your WordPress sites.
With WordPress you have two broad options.
1. Hosted at WordPress.com, where you have a choice of hosted themes and
options, and it is all kept up to date

YOu can get a site hosted by wordpress at wordpress.com or arrange your own on
your own hosting by downloading the software at wordpress.org. There are many
hosting sites.

I checked with my server, iiNet, they charge $160 per year to use
WordPress with them. For a trial, I will try a free page at
WordPress.com, we'll see how that works out.

I agree. The local Hosting Services WA not only hosts my domain and email but
allows free Wordpress, and many other, installations.
