Re: [WAMUG] Computer shutting down

2022-06-02 Thread Daniel Kerr
Kernal Panic’s are always a bit of a hard one to work through sometimes,…as
they can be either software or hardware.
Given you’ve said it doesn’t do it when Time Machine is turned off, then it
could either be a) something in the Time Machine software or b) something with
the drive being used that Time Machine is talking to. As obviously if Time
Machine is turned off,…then it’s not attempting to talk to the drive.

Do you have the MyCloud Home plugged directly into the computer with USB or to
your modem with Ethernet?
Have you tried unplugging or removing the drive, then re-connect and see if
problem persists?
Also tried removing that drive from Time Machine completely then seeing if
using a different drive gives the same issue?

So could be a number of things, not necessarily just Time Machine software
itself…could be something else “along the chain” from it talking or attempting
a backup.

You could also run EtreCheck to see if it turns anything up. You can download
that from here -
https://etrecheck.com

This site also has some good tips to work through Time Machine issues as well -
https://tommyang.github.io/pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html

Hope something there helps.
Kind regards
Daniel

Hi there,
Yes turning off the Time Machine stops the crashing…but now what?

Cheers

Re: [WAMUG] Computer shutting down

2022-06-01 Thread Peter Crisp
Hi Rosemary, message received.

The crash report seems a lot of gobbledygook. But actually when looking through
all the verbiage, I couldn’t see any relationship with Time Machine. Is it
possible for you turn off backups to disable that and see if that makes a
difference?

If the panic occurs at first start and you can’t get past that I am not sure
what next.

Regards

Pete

[WAMUG] Computer shutting down

2022-05-27 Thread Rosemary Spark
Anybody any suggestions? Crash report below

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
 Monterey 12.3.1

I think it might be related to TimeMachine backup to MYCloud Home as every
time I turn it on, it seems my computer dies.
Obviously, something is panicking but I don't know what.

Cheers
Rosemary Spark

computer shutting down

2018-05-25 Thread Rosemary Spark
Hi there,
Lost emails so copied from archive, sorry.

Still having problems with the computer shutting down...and losing stuff.

I got rid of Soundflower and some other 32 bit programs (though not all as
I still use them)

Tried PRAM, SMC reset etc

Etrecheck said i have had kernel panics with a samsung driver.(see below in
large print near end of report) I don't have the rest of the samsung
software. Can anyone tell me where would I find this driver to delete it?

Re: computer shutting down

2018-05-05 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Rosemary

Haven’t followed all of this,…but have you tried an SMC reset, PRAM reset and
SafeBoot?
Other thing to try would be create a new “test” account and log into that and
see if it does the same thing. (though I’m guessing it will, as it sounds like
more something at system level rather then user level, but worth a try to rule
it out.)

Other thing to try would be to run EtreCheck and see if it reports anything
there too.

Kind regards
Daniel

computer shutting down

2018-05-03 Thread Rosemary Spark
Hi There,
My 7 month old Macbook Pro has started shutting down.
It doesn't matter what I'm using Chrome, Pages, Photos the computer just
shuts down with no reason I can see.

Below is a copy of the report it says to send to Apple. I took it to the
Genius Bar and the woman said there's no problem when they did a system
diagnosis.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)

Processor 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

Anyone any ideas?
