Re: Apple TV Gen 2 question ?

2018-02-12 Thread Stephen Chape
Hi Ronni.

Sorry I did not report back re this yet.
I only just got back to Vicki’s place today.
Worked through your list of suggestions but ATV is still not signing in.

However she is about to make some major changes to her house layout.
So when she does the Modem, ATV and iMac will be in new locations.
If the problem still exists after the “furniture shake up” I will have another
shot at it.

 Hi folks,

I visited as friend yesterday whose husband died very suddenly a month ago.
She asked me to take a look at an issue with her Apple TV.
She uses it to stream music to her TV from iTunes on her 2013 iMac.
And has done so for some time.

However during the past couple of weeks it seems to frequently lose
 connection.
A message will pop up that it “cannot sign in” so she will press OK (the
 only option available.
Then the following message will appear.

“To access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on Home Sharing in iTunes
 on your computer using john.sm...@iinet.net.au
 ”
(the name has been changed to protect the innocent).
But when I checked Home Sharing is ON.

If she turns a few things off and on (she says), and waits a while it may
 reconnect.
But sometimes it does not. So then she waits till the next day to try
 again.

I have tried various things like turning Home Sharing OFF and back On.
 Restarting the Apple TV.
 Restarting the Modem.
 Even restarting the iMac.

She did tell me that at one point yesterday her iPad had a message
indicating that iinet had an issue.
But this issue seems to me more like a home WiFi issue, rather than iinet.

 Any ideas please folks ?
I think her music is giving her some solace after her recent loss.

There could be a problem with her Wi-Fi Network that needs checking.

A couple of other suggestions to test.

A) Both the Apple TV and iTunes Home Sharing are signed in to the same iTunes
Store account?
Connect to the shared library with the Apple TV:
1. On the Apple TV, open the Computers app.
2. If you haven’t already signed in to iTunes, you are prompted to enter your
username and password.
Go ahead and enter the same credentials that you used when turning on Home
Sharing on the computer.

Or, if you’re already logged in, you’ll be asked if you’d like to use the
current Apple ID or another Apple ID to enable Home Sharing. Assuming you want
to use the current Apple ID, select Yes to continue.
You will have to enter your Apple ID and password again (though your Apple ID
will be pre-filled for you).

B) Does the connection drop out using Airplay audio from the iTunes Library to
Apple TV?

AirPlay from iTunes
To send audio or video from iTunes to your Apple TV, click the AirPlayor
icon button in the toolbar and then click the plus ➕ icon adjacent to your
Apple TV. The plus changes to a check ✔️.
To turn AirPlay off, click the check ✔️ to turn it back to a plus ➕

Cheers,
Ronni

Thank you Ronni.

I will run through these checks next time I visit (which will probably be soon
in the circumstances).
I do know the iMac was on and iTunes open at the time (not sure if it is going
to sleep though).
But a few other of your suggestions to check when I go.

Re: Apple TV Gen 2 question ?

2018-02-06 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Stephen,

Check System Preferences > Firewall – make sure all instances of Bonjour and
iTunes are enabled for ALL networks.

You should also check to make sure the Mac you’re sharing from is turned on and
awake, and that iTunes is running on it. iTunes must be opened for Home Sharing
to work, and if the machine is turned off or asleep, then a Wi-Fi signal might
not be working as it needs to be for Home Sharing.
You can also set your Mac to wake on demand if you’re using an Apple TV. To do
that, go to System Preferences → Energy Saver and turn on Wake for Wi-Fi
network access.

If you already have iTunes open and everything looks good, but still isn’t
working, try quitting iTunes and reopening it to the foreground on your Mac and
try again.

Cheers,
Ronni
