Re: MAIL PROBLEMS

2019-08-26 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Jewels

If Mail is definitely searching the correct Mailbox (as you can set it to
search just one folder, just the Inbox, or “all folders”) then it could be an
issue with the Spotlight search for it.
You can set it to “stop” searching in Spotlight, then after a few minutes
“Removing” it again to make it start searching.
Another option is to remove the Envelope files which forces it to reindex email
once it opens again.

With these things, you need to ensure you have a good backup before you start
(just incase something goes wrong, you can then go back to the “original” files.

To do the rebuild of Spotlight and the “stop/go” solution, have a look at this
link here -
https://support.4it.com.au/article/search-not-working-or-incomplete-results-in-osx-el-capitan-mac-mail/
(Section 2 covers it. And Section 3 covers the removal of envelope files).

If still no success, then you can force Spotlight to “Reset” itself a few
different ways, so this can sometimes help as well.
Again, ensure you have a good backup before you start. And you have to be
“slightly comfortable “ in using Terminal for parts of this.
https://www.boxaid.com/blog/search-not-working-mac-el-capitan/

But either of those should hopefully get it working for you. (Start with the
easy ones first, then work your way through to the later ones).

Hope that information helps.
Kind regards
Daniel

Hi Ronni

Thanks for your prompt reply !

1. Checked Mailbox (in the top menu), then to ‘Go to Favourite Mail Box; -
already selected as ‘in box’

2. Mail already includes bin, junk etc

3. I have synchronised, as suggested

4. Spotlight suggestions was ticked already.

When I put a name in the search box in mail, it appears to only search ‘mail
boxes’ and not the in box. When I click the magnifying glass in the mail
search bar, it comes up with ‘mailboxes’ as the only option. Mail has worked
perfectly for years but not now.

I’ll do a shut down and see if mail updates. I’ll get back to you either way.

Many thanks

Re: MAIL PROBLEMS

2019-08-26 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Jewels,

If a specific mailbox is selected in the Favourites bar, Mail searches only
that mailbox. To search all mailboxes instead, click All.
Mail may not be looking in the Bin or Junk mailboxes, or searching encrypted
messages. To include them when searching all mailboxes, choose Mail >
Preferences, click General, then select the options.
You may need to sync the mailboxes on your Mac with those on the mail server.
Choose Mailbox > Synchronise > [account].
The Mail folder (located in your home Library folder) may be excluded from
Spotlight searching. To check, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click
Spotlight, then click Privacy.

Ideally going to the Family environment for Mum is the best way to keep
separate Messages and FaceTime traffic. This is the preferred config by Apple
for your scenario. You can go back to a single Apple ID if you don’t like
‘Family' after setting it up - it’s not complicated to set up. But to do this
all family members need their own dedicated Apple ID. Also not a big deal. I
remember when my family of 5 was functioning quite adequately with one Apple ID
(before Family setup existed), it was possible to set Messages to not have
overlap of one family member to another where not preferred.

Just go to Settings.]>Messages>Send and Receive and intuitively select the
phone number/email address preferred for the device you’re holding. Do this
across all devices (iOS and OSX) to keep out of each others way. Repeat this in
FaceTime as well.

Having done the iMAP migration across all devices, you might as well do the
Family set up as well.

Pete.

Hi, Ronni,

It’s fixed! I tried all the suggestions with no luck, so started from scratch
with the router: discovered that it only had its own DNS number in the Network
Wi-Fi panel. Fortunately, I had all the original data written down, so was able
to add the necessary. Now I can gather up the piles of hair lying around and
try to stick it back on. I can’t imagine how those numbers vanished away.

Thank you very much for your help!

NO... As long as nothing is selected (ticked) in the boxes above *.local,

Connection Doctor has indicated Mail can connect to the Internet as it shows
green in Connection Status.
But shows Red dots in the Account Status column.
So you need to Check your Incoming IMAP or POP and Outgoing SMTP email account
settings are correct as per your ISPs Mail Settings.

Check you don't have any third party firewall software, such as Little Snitch
blocking the necessary ports.

I presume you have already tried Quitting Mail and Restarting your Mac and then
opening Mail again?

Power Cycle your Network Modem Router Mac
Power all Off - Then first Power ON the Modem - then the Router - then your Mac.

difficulty with it. There are apps on the iPad that interact with the Mac
by wifi and they function normally. So it must be something within Mail.

In Mail, the 3 POP email accounts are shown as off-line, with exclamation

toggle back and forth between the on and off setting, but nothing happens.
None of the account settings have changed.

Mail Connection Doctor says Mail is able to connect to the Internet and

Re: Mail problems

2011-01-02 Thread cm
Hi Frank,

I have had this problem intermittently on a very few occasions in past and in
my case the server was always down. Can you log into your server with a web
browser, say, and just check that the email account is functioning?

If the server is down, when the server comes back up everything should start to
function again.

Let the group know if this is not a problem with the server as others may see a
solution.

Cheers,
Carlo

Frank,

I frequently get this and I get two sources of mail via the one
server. One sometimes doesn't work so I know its not the source. I
shut down mail. If that doesn't work I shut down the computer and re-
start. That always works.

Hi Frank,

deleting all references to this password in Keychain.

When you have deleted all references to this password in Keychain, did you do
it as per instructions below?

1. Quit Mail if it's running.

2. Open Keychain Access

3. Find the password that Mail is having a problem with and delete it, then
quit Keychain Access.

4. Restart Mail and it will ask for the Mail account's password again, type in
the password and tick
'Remember this password in my keychain'.

If you still experience the password problem, you might need to 'Repair'
Keychain.

To check keychains for problems:

1. Open Keychain Access, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications
folder.

2. Open Keychain Access

3. Choose Keychain Access Keychain First Aid.

4. Enter your user name and password.

5. Select Verify and click Start. Any problems found will be displayed.

If there are problems, select Repair, and then click Start.

Cheers,
Ronni

There is probably a simple box to tick somewhere in Mail
