The project is still under development and there's not a lot of
documentation.
Anyway, Wave in a Box (WIAB) provides Robot/DataAPI and Gadgets API - which
are very similar to the APIs provided by original Google Wave. You can take
a look at the Google Wave documentation at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/WAVE/Wave+API+documentation.
Just note that it is a bit outdated and there are some differences between
Google Wave and Apache Wave, but still can be a great starting point. Feel
free to ask on this mailing list if you need more info.

Regarding WIAb installation - You can obtain the source as described at
http://incubator.apache.org/wave/source-code.html
The installation instructions can be found in the README file that is part
of the source.
