Jonathan Hole who lived to be 93, in Mayberry Goes Hollywood. In 1970 he
sent me an 8by10 glossy autographed and a short letter inwhich he said
Thank you Mr Kessel .Im in receipt of your lovely letter. Im a tv actor at

I listed?a link to Mayberry's Restaurant in West Virginia on another post. I
found it while surfing the net looking for a town called Mayberry, West
Virginia. I was reading an obituary and one of the survivors was listed as from
Mayberry, West Virginia. Has?anyone ever heard of this town? I
Wasn't the actor who bought the Mayberry cannon the same actor who was Ward
Cleaver in the very first pilot episode of Leave it to Beaver? I could be
wrong on this but for some reason this comes to mind.

Mayberry's Restaruant in St. Albans, West Virginia.
Has anyone been there?
I grew up in St. Albans (and went to HS with Connie). It started years after I
moved away, but went there before it moved to its current location. It was a
good meal, but the menu and decor not as Mayberry as I was
Sam was asking who was the most famous guest star on Andy. He nominated Ruta
Lee, and I agree she was pretty famous. However, my nomination would be Gail
Davis who played Karen Moore, the perfect female. Ruta Lee never did have a
regular show and was only a guest star on several shows.
***But, I was wondering: who was the biggest
guest star at the time of their appearing?***
Very good question. I would nominate Buddy Ebsen for that honor. Before his
appearance, he had appeared in numerous
films, often singing and dancing and once did a dance number with Shirley
Temple.
As for the biggest/most famous guest star appearing on TAGS at the time the
episode aired, I would probably vote for either Buddy Ebsen or Bill Bixby,
although both appeared on TAGS just prior to becoming more famous with their
own starring roles in television.
Interesting to note that TAGS

I saw My One and Only today and believe I spotted Nice Dress Nellie as a
customer in the paint shop; not sure though; anyone else notice? Also,
any art experts out there, do you know if the painting on the wall of the
town hall in the Mayberry Founder's Day pageant rehearsal is a Bierstadt?

I was visiting a friend this afternoon and she told me about some problems they
had with a guy they hired to cut down trees and remove the stumps. Apparently
he kept trying to jack up the bill for ridiculous reasons, and finally her
husband just told him to get out. He tried the same thing
I just sent a message to the digest, replying to Brad's posts about
Mayberry, WV. Unfortunately, I hit send too quickly and forgot to delete
the message I was replying to (the entire digest email)! So sorry!

You asked who the antique dealer was in The Horse Trader episode. It was

Ha ha...well it might be true that Barney wouldn't approve but it IS a
painting. You can't very well ship it in a FedEx overnight cardboard box. :)
I'm guessing the packaging would have to be pretty good
Also, my wife and I were discussing this last night. We were watching the
cannon episode, and couldn't remember the name of the actor who played Mr.
Mason, the antique dealer who bought the cannon. I know he has done
voiceovers, and I can recognize his face and voice right away. Who remembers
Brad/Neil Bentley, you pose an interesting question. I was born and raised
in WV, but had never heard of a Mayberry in WV myself. Well, as Opie would
say, it was preying on my mind. I used mapquest to see if there was a
Mayberry. Mapquest didn't find a Mayberry, but it did find a Mayberry Run.
But, I was wondering: who was the biggest guest star at the time of their
appearing?
I'd say that Buddy Ebsen had a much longer resume at the time of his
appearance than Ruta Lee had, even though he hadn't started Hillbillies yet.
