I had the fortunate opportunity to meet George Lindsay at a Mayberry Reunion in
Nashville several years ago. Of course it was a high point for me, several of
the cast members were there and I got autographs, Don Knotts and Betty Lynn
were there as well.
I heard this morning, he wanted to be
Well, Peanut, you gave us some smiles. grins and laughter. You were great
in serious roles as well. If not mistaken you were in the movie Mr.
Roberts, filmed at Midway Island the year before I arrived.
I remember well the year you came to Mayberry Days and recited your poem,
which drew
In the book Mayberry 101, I'll always remember this story that George Lindsey
tells. He said he had a hard time knowing how to play the part of Goober. He
asked Andy Griffith about it. Andy told George that Goober was the type of guy
that would go into the diner and say This place has good
I'll always remember when I met Goober at Disney World many years ago. He
was so gracious and friendly and happily autographed my Mayberry, My
Hometown book on his picture. Such a nice man.

Reading all of these posts, make me think of the shows that are being referred
to. Goob was a nut, and that made him that much more funny to watch. I loved
him sewing his fingers together, or walking like Chester or Judy, Judy, Judy.
All good stuff. Anytime we lose someone so close, but,
I enjoy watching lots of the old TV shows. George Lindsey had some very
good acting parts on shows such as the Twilight Zone Alfred Hitchcock
Presents. However, I think most of us will always remember him as
Goober!!! What a legacy he left for the world to enjoy!
(I
just saw him on an old Alfred Hitchcock Hour episode, as a cab driver.
He was not a pleasant sort on the show. I guess it was the actor of the man...)

When Goober arrives at the Pearly Gates, ol Pete says Welcome Goob, God
says Hey...
Seeing so many TAGS scene were centered around the Taylor table I would
like to present a question to you.
If you could invite any person from Mayberry for Sunday dinner, who would
you invite and what would you serve?

Thanks to Tim (Goober) Petigrew and all his fans Goober will always live in our
