Janet's post about the Bookie Barber brought to mind something I always wondered about with Ellen Brown, he manicurist. How was she going to make a living if she only worked on tips? When Andy had his manicure he gave Floyd money and then handed Ellen a tip, which looked like maybe a quarter.

Maybe the bookie barber wasn't quite as interested in checkers or the latest town gossip, so he had more time to devote to haircuts thereby allowing Floyd to be on the sidewalk.  Of course that would make the barbershop a less lively place to visit.  Just a thought. Sonya Palmer
