Seeing the question in Today's Digest I pulled out Don Knotts biography "Barney Fife and other Characters I have known" I didn't read every page, but my quick scan indicated he lived no place other that West Virginia and New York, in his early years.
The good news is that it prompted me to read that book again. On my quick scan I noticed such gems as the fact that Don really lived at a YMCA in New York. He was really one pound under-weight for the service (and signed a waiver to join up). His father was really "sickly". The Untrained Voice PS: here again is the episode list.
