Hello, everyone!

I was watching some of the first season episodes of Gomer Pyle, USMC last
night. One of the episodes I caught was "Gomer and the Dragon Lady," and while
watching, I discovered a special tip of the hat to Don Knotts.

In one scene, Gomer is met by Duke (Ronnie Schell) and a couple other guys from
his platoon as he is walking out of a movie theater having just seen Ma and Pa
Kettle in Hawaii, twice (Ma and Pa Kettle are Gomer's favorites, you know). In
the close-up shots outside the movie theater featuring Duke, I thought I spot
something familiar in the background.

Thanks to the wonderful zoom and pan features on my DVD, I discovered a mock
poster for a film called Ships to Shore and this poster just happened to
feature pictures and artwork from Knott's 1964 feature film, The Incredible
Mr. Limpet.  I did a search online this morning to verify this, and sure
enough, it appears the show used an actual poster from the movie, but covered
up the title (which makes sense since Mr. Limpet was produced by Warner Bros.
and neither Gomer Pyle, USMC or The Andy Griffith Show were associated with
that studio).

Anyway, I thought that was really pretty cool that the show slipped in this nod
to Don Knotts and his first major feature film and I thought I would share it
with everyone here. After all, now everyone can  catch the Gomer episode that
features a guest appearance by good old Don (well, kinda, sorta).

Best to you all,
