Vern got it right, Dooley's first name is Zeke. If you do an Internet search
for Mitch Jayne Zeke Dooley you can find some of these hilarious stories.
Many of them were published over the years in a magazine called The Missouri
Conservationist. Even better than reading the stories off the page
Well seeing Job was in the Old Testament and it can be shortened a little
to Jo, I will say Dooley's first name was Jo but I would say chances are
pretty good that I am wrong on this one.
I think Rance Howard, Ronnie Howard, and Clint Howard all appeared in The
Gold Shipment and I think Lance
The Dooley of the song was based on a real person that The Dillards knew back
in the Missouri Ozarks. Actually, according to Mitch he was sort of an amalgam
of two or three old-timers.
Anyway, Dooley is the character's last name, and he does have a first name.

Are you sure Dooley wasn't his first name? Y'know in the Loretta Lynn
movie her husband was nicknamed Dooley Lynn so maybe they were singing about
him?
But 'round about Mayberry it could have been Beasley or Bass, or maybe
Brendlemightor Lesch.

His name must have been Tom Dooley. The song says, Hang down your head Tom
Dooley, hang down your head and cry. Hang down your head Tom Dooley. Poor
boy you're about to die.
Then again it could have been some kin to Tom Dooley.May the Spirit of

Sorry I haven¹t checked in lately, but now I have some news, and it¹s BIG.
(Actually, it¹s only 20 lbs.) We adopted a darling dog from the animal
