did indeed guest star in the GOMER PYLE USMC episode Opie Joins the Marines
(2nd season)...
Opie runs away from home after a failing grade, and shows up in Gomer's
barracks at Camp Henderson, hoping to join

I have the privilege of playing in a community band. It is made up of
people of all ages who enjoy getting together to play their instruments.
Anyhow, we are preparing some music for a concert we will perform on Memorial
Day. One of the songs includes a portion of the Marines Hymn
To Mike Haviland, Don't sign up under the buddy system. My son and his best
friend went in about 10 years ago and tried to do that. Luckily the recruiter
discouraged them. He told them they could go in at the same time and train at
the same place but if they officially went in under the buddy

a part of the Marines Hymn. When I am at school working with the students,
I take my job very seriously. However, as they started singing the words of
the Marines Hymn, my mind immediately wandered to TAGS and the episode where
Gomer marches into the courthouse singing the Marines Hymn
There's been some posting of Mayberrians on in the Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. series.
I must confess I was a Gomer from the outset of the series.
You can see these Mayberrians in various episodes. I have 90 on VHS but haven't
gotten the CDs yet.
