Happy 83rd birthday Jim Nabors ( Gomer Pyle ). I am thinking of giving him
a gift. A brand new shiny bucket with 83 engraved on the bottom of it.

My first mother-in-law was very much a country gal and looked forward to having
'salt fish' for breakfast.  The fish would come packed in large plastic tubs
and were - yup - packed in salt.  She said it was only available in months with
an 'r' in it (January, February, March, April, September, etc).  It was fried
with eggs and no matter how much you rinsed the fish, they were salty enough to
curl your toes!  I could take it only in small amounts and occasionally, but
she and her husband eagerly looked forward to this morning meal.

When I was just a boy, my grandfather and dad would take my brother and
me to upper Canada for a week of fishing in the wilderness. It took us
two days to get there driving and two days back so just left five days
of fishing, fishing and more fishing. We would be on the lake at the
crack of dawn, catch our breakfast - fish - build a campfire and eat our
breakfast. Then we would fish for a few hours, build a campfire and eat
our fish for lunch. Then we would fish a few more hours, build a
campfire and eat our fish for supper and fish some more until dark. The
same routine for five days and then bring lots of frozen fish home to
eat for the next several months. Fish for breakfast is gd. I
don't think Andy and Opie ever went on that long a fishing trip,
especially to catch Carp for the museum. The Gollywobbler

The other day I recalled having fish for breakfast. In the northeast lox on
a bagel is a breakfast treat, especially served at a brunch!

Could this be the most extreme ( lets call it a fabrication ) on TAGS ?

Near the end of the episode Mans Best Friend ; Goober tells Tommy (when
Tommy is asking for the phone number of the man with a horse ) that HE DIDNT
HAVE A PENCIL HANDY and told the number to his dog ( the one that could talk ).
So Goober was asking Spot the dog for the number. Can you imagine Goober not
having something to write with ??? Is there any other exteme fabrications
on TAGS that you can think of ?

Also this is another momentary suspension of disbelief scene, I still like to
point them out. Opie was explaining that the walkie talkies transmit button had
to be pushed to transmit and released to recieve, it makes you wonder how Spot
operated the thing !

In Opie's Merry Men Andy states that there are laws to help the poor
through taxes, and for those too old or too sick and can not work. The point
of that episode, and anyone can correct me if I am wrong, is that people who
can work, should be encouraged to. I will add... And not be used as
political pawns, as many are.

I forgot to add and please add this?

In the end of that episode there weren't any county jobs Andy confessed to
Opie. The Sheriff told a lie. Opie calls Andy on the carpet.

One main reason I like TAGS so much is that often there is an intersting
twist at the end, and with a point.

Andy reference

2013-06-12 Thread jlj9675
In the latest issue of Reader's Digest, under an article about 50 things to
like about our country, it says that Cleveland aired a couple hours of
Matlock in honor of Andy when he was left out of the Oscar memoriam segment.
I also got around to watching a historical presentation of GSN about funny
moments on game shows and altho a lot of it was filthy, there was a vignette
of Andy appearing on I've Got a Secret and he helped a man who blew up an
inner tube and it exploded in his face and knocked him down.

Tony Awards Memoriam Segment

2013-06-12 Thread Brian Kaufman

I also saw the Tony Awards show and really appreciated the applause that Andy
received during the In Memoriam section of the show.  I have never really
watched the Tony's before, but I must say, it is by far the best awards show I
have seen on TV.  Of course, the appreciation for Andy made it better, but it
truly was a better awards show than any other I have seen.
