Many people on the digest already know this, but Frances's Studebaker was
purchased by Ted Womack, who is the tribute artist for Mr. Wheeler and Mr.
McBeevee. If you frequent Mayberry events, you have surely seen him. Ted also
has a nice squad car.

If you look up Frances Bavier's profile online, it said that her car was still

Aunt Bee's Car

2014-10-07 Thread Good, Don
I also watched an episode of Mayberry RFD titled The Mynah Bird that has
sparked a Facebook conversation initiated by a person who is currently housing
Aunt Bee's car. I thought I recognized the car in the episode, so I goobered,
uh, I mean googled some information about it
(http://www.studebaker-info.org/Auntbea/auntbeastude.html). Sure enough, I'm
convinced that was indeed her car on the screen.

Don Good,
Speed, speed, speed
(OK that's a little hard to think about with a Studebaker - unless it's an
Avanti)

That appears to me to be a 1955 Ford Fairlane Sunliner convertible. I think I
once
called it a '56 here on the forum and several people piped right up and
corrected me,
surprised I haven't heard from them yet. But they were right, it was indeed a
'55.

Mayberrians were apparently Ford people mostly; although Ford supplied new cars
for the
show, even many of the featured older ones turn out to be Fords, like this one
or
Barney's deal he got from Hubcaps Lesch, or Emmett's '59 Ford pickup. I'm
guessing
the same dealer who provided the squad cars provided a few extras from its used
car
division. Obviously there was the occasional exception like Howard Sprague's
'64 Chevy.

Love the shot of Frances Bavier's real world car, the Studebaker.

I'm not sure of the manufacturer and model but I posted some screen captures
on Mayberry Historical Society for the all the official car identification
notifiers out there. Also, if you have a look at the photos you may find the
answer to another question that has been asked before. Check it out.

Aunt Bee's Car

2007-09-06 Thread Harry Brewbaker
Was Aunt Bee's car a 1956 Ford? Not sure if it was a Crown Victoria V-8 or
not. My Great Aunt Laura had one but hers wasn't a convertible. It was Salmon
colored with a white top.
