Hey, Mayberry friends. For those readers and digesters living close to the Hickory-Catawba County, NC area: Dr. Gary Freeze will be giving a lecture at the Catawba County Library entitled "Mayberry Revisited", Tuesday, June 6 at 6:30-8:00. Dr. Freeze is a history professor at Catawba College. Now, I'm not big on lectures, having suffered through so many in college, but this one may well be worth the trouble. For more info and directions, see www.catawbacountync.gov/library.
There was a plethora (is that a word?) of Mayberry alumni on a couple of old movies on TV this weekend and I managed to catch a few. "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" a musical starring Van Johnson and Claude Rains also had our own Miss Rosemary (Amzie Strickland), the mailman from the Mr. Wheeler episode (Doodles Weaver, related to Sigourney Weaver) and Otis' brother Ralph (Stanley Adams). Then later a war movie called "Run Silent, Run Deep",starring Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster with Don Rickles, (Newton Monroe), Ken Lynch (various police officers), and our young mechanic/electrician accused of stealing Wally's tools, Jimmy, (Pat Colby). I wonder if he was kin to Floyd Colby? Larry in Lincolnton _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
