andy's smoking

2010-06-16 Thread Timothy-Lindsey Ralston
Watched Bookie Barber episode last night and got me thinking.
In this episode Andy is seen smoking for 2 seconds, taking a drag as he exits
courthouse
and then throwing the cigarette on the ground.
In about 13 episodes we see Andy smoking briefly.
Out of 8 seasons, that is a low number of episodes.
I wonder why the producers decided to show Andy smoking in these few episodes?
If he smoked all the time I would say it was part of the character,
but it is so infrequent that it makes me wonder why it was put in.
Seems that Andy's character would have either been a big smoker or not at all.
Is there a purpose behind the producers choosing to show this occasionally?

Andy's smoking

2008-04-21 Thread Barbara Mylott
There was a question about how many times Andy lit up
a cigarette and I couldn't say but there is something
I noticed when Andy lit up - there was never any more
than 2 puffs taken when the cigarette was put out.
Guess he didn't have to worry too much about the
hazards of smoking.
Best to you and yours,
Barb

Andy's Smoking and Aunt Bee's Dissin'

2007-10-28 Thread MeInMayberry

ihey, I wondered if Andy Griffith really smoked? I saw him smoking on TAGS
about 11 times. Could someone tell me? Also therte a rumor I heard that Andy
And Francies Bavier did not get along. True or not? I gueuss rumors spread
fast in Mayberry. Anyone else heard about this?/i

b Yes, Andy really smoked, and what I read is that he gave it upi (at
least on air--some photos suggest otherwise)/i after the Surgeon General's
warnings appeared in the early 60's. I've also read that Frances Bavier
didn't
get along with Andy, or anyone else for that matter.
Years after TAGS, Andy Griffith and Ron Howard went to her house, but she
refused to meet with them. Before she died, however, she talked with Andy on
the phone and sort of patched things up.
Did I get the story right? /b
