Hello,
Now this problem I'm having is weird.
In Opera 7.2 Mozilla 1.4 (Win) my site [1] appears to be displaying fine.
In Internet Explorer 6 (Win) it doesn't render - it displays the source
code.
Why on earth would this be happening??
I've just tried to remove the XML declaration on line 1
Please read the following, this appears to be interesting but with HUGE
side effects.
Sysadmins, expose your opinions, that's good matter for discussion...

As far as I know of IE, is that without XSL to tell it how to render the
page, it will display the xml data instead.
That's a feature...

this is just a very simple site to help a friend sell her house, but I want
to make sure it's working, at least,
esp:
is the flashsniffer working?

The xml prolog (?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?) throws IE6 into
quirks mode causing it to act like IE5.5 with all its box problems. Add to
that the strict dtd and you find out what unanticipated consequences

You only need to use the prolog when no encoding type is specified: Such a

Hi Elliott,
Nicely done site. I viewed it with IE5.5 on a 255mghz PC / Win98 /
fiber-optic connection. (sorta like a transistor radio powered by a
lightening rod). The Flash sniffer seem to

Yeah thanks, it validates perfectly, but pity about the appearance!!
Now that I've made the code validate - everything's thrown out of whack -
I've got much learning to do.

I'm finally trying to put a bit of time into learning some HTML. I'm using
Dreamweaver as it gives me the opportunity to see code and final result on
same screen and I've been using it in Design view for some years but am now
watching what happens in HTML view as I do things with a view to
Most of you are aware of that Microsoft lost a lawsuit where Eolas is
claiming a patent on all active linking in Internet Explorer (affects
Flash and probably every other plug-in and not just for IE but Opera
and probably other browsers as well). There is an interesting article
which shows
Could it be incorrect permissions set on the file? Otherwise, I'm not sure
off the top of my head.

Hi Elliott,
The site looks very nice. On Windows XP, IE 6, went into the Flash version
transitions were smooth and all links worked for me. Wish I had the money to
buy the place!

Hi Elliott,
Nice site. I like the color scheme...very appropriate. The flash
worked great on my 56k.
On to other matters, real estate must be very expensive in CA. My house
is twice the size and half the price! Of course, there is no
neighborhood pool and no weekly landscaping...which

Sorry, I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but the page looks awful in
Netscape 7.02. I use the xhtml dtd and coding on my pages, but they
don't look that bad.

Pictures especially those of the bathroom need improvement. All of the
straight lines were jagged in them. Colors are nice but the font used
on the picture pages doesn't match the elegance of the rest of the
site. Looks like MS Comic Sans or something of that genre. Flash worked
okay but I'm on

Since you're probably on Windows, you might have a point (not using
Windows all that much, I wouldn't know for sure). If you're on a *nix box,

yup, you should have a tag like this !-- #BeginTemplate
/Templates/page.dwt -- at the top of your page (after HTML). This
should be closed with !-- #EndTemplate -- at the bottom of the page just
before /HTML.
Then, wherever you want to have an 'editable region' you should enclose it
in tags
