I've been using Dreamweaver 8 for the last several months and have come to like it quite a bit. I've never used the WYSIWYG features, it's simply a coding editor for me (I use PHP but used to code in ASP classic as well). Getting clean, validating code nearly always makes you review things manually anyway.
I'm also becoming a fan of prototype.js. I tried using Adobe Spry but at the time it wasn't flexible enough to do what I needed (it may be, now). Prototype has two different ajax bits; one allows you to dump ajax return data directly to a DOM element and the other allows you to grab the return value directly and manipulate it (which was what I wanted). I know I'm not using it nearly to its full benefit yet. If you're just looking for a code-sensitive text editor, I've always liked Crimson Editor. It's free and has quite a variety of features. I used to code in notepad quite a bit myself until I found CE.
