In your callback, instead of replacing the HTML, eval the response

success="function (msg){ eval(msg); };"

So you would return javascript to accomplish what you want

from your view

return """
jQuery('#mydiv').html('%s');
jQuery('#otherdiv').css({"color": "red"});
""" % (DIV("Hi"))
