.. I’m out of the WebObjects business now, probably permanently, but I’ll put
$200 in the pot even though I’m not going to the WOWODC. Pascal has done
stellar work over the years and though it may be bitter-sweet to hear that only
when the crisis arrives, his work made me more successful and I’ll not see him
out of pocket for no fault of his own .. Gavin

I agree with Chuck, if you're out of pocket, I'll be happy to share the

However, I don't know how much we should keep investing beyond this. Just
my personal (and probably unpopular) opinion.

But, I'd be happy to host this stuff here at SmartPractice indefinitely.

Re: Closure of WOCommunity Association

2016-05-11 Thread Ramsey Gurley
Good suggestion. I just opened a JIRA here. You can copy paste if you like to
your own business people.

http://store.wocommunity.org/products/membership

I recommend we become Gold or Silver level contributors to the WOCommunity.
According to the Facebook page, it is nearly insolvent. If that were to happen,
we are going to need to drop everything to work on self-hosting a lot of what
they do for us currently at no charge. That includes but is not limited to:

https://jenkins.wocommunity.org
https://wiki.wocommunity.org
https://maven.wocommunity.org
https://github.com/wocommunity/
https://wocommunity.org/documents/javadoc/WebObjects/5.4.2/

Should nothing change, these will shut down at end of month. We will need to
begin building our development environments from source. We will not have
proper documentation to aid in that process. We will not have access to hosted
dependencies that make building our applications considerably easier. We will
not even have a reliable place to find Javadocs for WebObjects as Apple no
longer hosts them. Basically, WebObjects Armageddon.

At 32 people that is $200 each to cover the shortfall. I am good for at least

Hi Maik,

That is great news that you can host it. I can help with the
migration.

Who wants to help me to organize WOCommunity 2.0 (new style)? It would
be great to have some feedback on what I sent earlier. Do you like it?
Should we add something? I have some ideas:

- online forum
- website on github linking all pieces together (podcasts on wiki, wiki
pages, maven, jenkins)
- collaboration site
- Office 365 collaboration: word, excel, onenote (sent earlier)

Maybe a skype call is good to talk about this in details?

Best regards, Bart

Migration Checklist

2016-05-11 Thread jazzsalsa
Hi Pascal,

Could you help to provide the needed information for the migration (and
fill in the Notebook below)? Without this information we cannot select
a new hosting provider. Hopefully some of the supporting companies can
support this on-site?

Closure of WOCommunity Association

2016-05-11 Thread jazzsalsa
Hi WebObjects fans,

I just read this message on Facebook from Pascal:

Pascal Robert

With the official death of WebObjects, it is time to announce the
closure of the WOCommunity Association. We don't have any cash left to
pay the expenses of WOWODC 2016 and the hosting.
WOWODC 2016 won't be cancelled. Unless someone wants to host the wiki
and Jenkins, they will be shutdown at the end of the month. Recordings
of WOWODC 2016 will only be available to attendees.

Very bad indeed. Therefore I created an overview of WebObjects fans I
found on the wiki:

Let's find out how to organize the migration. I just sent an email to
RedHat (openshift) to see if they support it.
1. Could you be so kind to add your email address in case your are
interested to receive updates about the migration?
2. Fill in the column ("continent") as well to figure out how we are
distributed on the planet(for skype calls and meetups).
3. Mention if you support (need) the migration of the services maven,
jenkins, wiki, others I forgot

Pascal, could you be so kind to fill in sheet "Infrastructure" about
the size of the services we are talking about. This will help to
migrate this easily.

Many thanks, Bart
