No new extensions in months, but new FF version conflicting with the browser

[libreoffice-website] DOWNTIME of mailing lists and downloads

2013-02-06 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hello,

as if the usual release stress wasn't enough, bilbo, our server
responsible for e-mail, mailing lists and downloads, just experienced
another SSD crash.

I am currently asking for a replacement, and expect this to happen in
2-4 hours. It will come with a downtime of approximately 15-30 minutes.

Sorry for those inconveniences at a rather bad time.

Florian

[libreoffice-website] Re: [libreoffice-marketing] New website elements for the 4.0

2013-02-06 Thread Charles-H. Schulz
Hello Christian,

Le mercredi 06 février 2013 à 17:14 +0100, Christian Lohmaier a écrit :
 Hi Charles, *,

So what is the status/where ist the stuff that need to be put online?

I might have missed some stuff because I've been offline for quite a
while. I've seen drafts/proposals, but I missed the actual stuff it
 seems.

Instead of quoting and replying to each comment individually:

*) silverstripe is very flexible, and putting a page online in
whatever design is easy, especially if it is only a landing page that
doesn't need to include dynamic (i.e. depending on what other pages
 were created) navigation.
You can just simply put the HTML you create locally in the template
and thats it, no need for integration work or similar.

So when you have the finished proposal, please point me to it.

Similarily, setting a redirection or similar up is possible as well,
but same problem: Need to have the proposal...

Olav also criticized the download page - fine, but he makes the
mistakes of linking the design to the apparent lack of capabilities of
silverstripe - but those have nothing to do with each other. Another
CMS wouldn't give you a nice download page magically. And neither is
the look of the site linked to the CMS - you will have to create nice
CSS and define how navigation should look/work with other CMS as well,
so switching CMS wouldn't solve this. What /does/ solve this is
actually providing mockups/designs on how it *should* look instead.
Just stating it sucks won't help.

But we had that discussion so many times, with only complaints and no
concrete proposals on how it actually should work (hopefully that will
now change with Camille, Jonathan, and offering their
 not-only-voice-based help :-)

Olav wants a modern website to showcase - then please design it and
it can be put on the site. I wrote so many times that I can help with
the technical part of it (i.e. putting it into silverstripe, doing the
html-assembly), but that I'm no webdesigner, so if you want cool
looks/graphics, those have to be supplied by someone else.
I wrote so many times already that you can even have your customized
theme for your language, and that the css is on github, but that
 didn't change anything..

Erich has mentioned another important point, that I think got lost:
How are NL-Projects supposed to deal with it? Will there only be one
single English frontpage and NL-Teams will have the current one?

 So again one more time:
Don't confuse the current design with a limitation of silverstripe.
Silverstripe only does what the template tells it to do. And the
template and php code can be adjusted freely.

I'll let Camille answer...

best,

[libreoffice-website] infra status quo for tomorrow

2013-02-06 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hello,

unfortunately, I have some bad news to share - I did not manage to
transfer the website today.

Murphy hit me several times: Yesterday, for several hours, broadband was
broke almost everywhere in southern Germany, then today, bilbo's SSD had
a crash and needed a replacement (mail downloads were down), which
then took much longer than usually. Plus, we had to cope with high load
on kermit again - in other words: two days of chaos, and totally
disrupted schedule. Although I worked until 0130 last night, the backlog
was just too high to be ready in time today. And the more I dig, the
more I find undocumented stuff that I have to first find out and
properly document to transfer it to the new machine. It's an extremely
tedious task...

The good news is that everything is prepared for transferring sites: web
and mail server is ready, DNS TTL is set to 5 minutes for an easy
switch, and tomorrow, Christian, Alex and I will meet here onsite to
work realtime on the system.

I did not manage at all to have a look at the new proposed website
design, so I cannot promise it will be live in time, because I simply
lack any insight so far.

We will decide tomorrow, based on what is going on, what we can migrate
and what not, and which steps to take to ensure proper operations during
the 4.0 release. If possible, my plan would be to migrate the wiki and
the web site in parallel to cope with the high load. If this goes well,
we still can embed the new website content, either into Silverstripe or
statically. As Christian is here, and we have a fast connection between
the servers, I'm positive, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Sorry for this mess, but when everything around breaks, you're sometimes
out of luck...

Let's keep our fingers crossed all goes well. :-)

[libreoffice-website] Dead line problem for libo4 website

website,
(see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Proto_libo4_Home_05.jpg

But it will be really hard for us to meet the deadline of tomorow noon,
especially considering the PHP part to integrate.

Would a delay till friday noon be imaginable for you?

Cheers,

I really like Camille's prototype. It's only need some polishing. I'm
managing to make final version of it in Polish language. And today, at late
night I will send you my finished work, based on Camille's prototype -
hope, you won't be mad! :-)

Camille, you did great work, but I want you to know, that Libre Office

We should remember these info:

2013-02-06 Thread Pawel Konefal
Welcome again Camille,

Your latest work is... even more oustanding! But about delay: *Charles* and
*Florian* should speak. I recommend you trying to contact with them
directly.
As far as I remember, Florian said that 4.0 version release PROBABLY will
be tomorrow about 13:00 (German time).

Is PHP integration required? As we don't have a time, we can give static
links to e.g. www.libreoffice.org. We have too few time, but it's only my
opinion.

Greetings,

Thanks for the kind words. And also thanks for pointing the branding
 problem.
Unfortunately, the version you used is quite outdated. We will send an
updated version tomorow noon and hope to be able to ship the final by
 tomorow evening/friday noon.

 Cheers,
 Camille

[libreoffice-website] Staging site -- draft Site

2013-02-06 Thread Marc Paré

Christian or Erich,

When I am on our staging site, and wish to test, for example a banner, I
add the banner as per usual in SS, but, when I click on the bottom
Draft Site it takes me to the real LibreOffice website and NOT the
LibreOffice staging site. There does not seem to be a way to see the
changes that I am testing.

Is this the usual behaviour of this link? Or has it just been
mis-configured?

If it has been misconfigured, could you also check the Published Site
link as well. Should it also lead to the staging site?

I mentioned Idea Torrent because I saw it in action at Ubuntu Brainstorm

works better than a wiki page with Crazy Ideas or Vote for
