Follow-up Comment #3, bug #22837 (project wesnoth): @fabian, that's not correct. Both of them have the 'illuminates' special ability, and the special ability works correctly. The time of day is lightened by one degree (from night to neutral, from neutral to day) in all six hexes surrounding them

Follow-up Comment #13, bug #22068 (project wesnoth): The partial fix (in comment #11) for sos saves doesn't load any saved wml vars that were in the previous scenario. Tested in non-networked games with campaign add-ons The Great Quest Random Campaign.
