Dear Brother Aldo,

Congratulations to you and your team for this wonderful initiative. This is
a very important project which we should all support. I know how difficult
it is to organize such an initiative without adequate resources. I have
looked through your concept document and I think the ideas in the document
are excellent.
What I would suggest is for you to involve team members who are going to
actively participate in taking this project to the people on the ground in
the district. I am saying this because we have quite a number of people who
like to talk or write but to physically participate in these issues tend to
not show up. You need to have a group of determined people who will push
with you even when things get difficult. I experienced this first hand
during the Nile Care Eye Project last November. All the issues you have
included in the document are very serious issues in our region and people
need to be educated so that they can take care of themselves since medical
infrastructure in our region is very poor. Among some of the issues which I
believe your team should seriously take into consideration is High blood
pressure and diabetes which I believe have become the silent killer
diseases in our region which the people need to be aware of or educated
about.
I would suggest that since the time frame for the project is in a few weeks
the radio campaign should start immediately so that as many people as
possible should be informed. I think the youth should be very much
encouraged to attend this screening as much as the adults. Awareness and
early detection goes a long way where health infrastructure is poor. In
future you may want to work with science cafe to reach the local
communities as you personally witnessed the power of science cafe when you
officially inaugurated in Arua last April. I will very much look forward to
hear the good news about the people you will reach during that week.
Wish you every success in this endeavour.

Thanks again for this initiative,

Vasco
