             Bug #: 29276
Summary: Allow enabling stub thresholds by default
           Product: MediaWiki
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: Unprioritized
         Component: Page rendering
        AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
        ReportedBy: gti...@gmail.com
    Classification: Unclassified

The stub threshold feature (preferences/appearance/advanced options/threshold
for
stub link formatting) allows setting different CSS styles (by default, a green
color) on links which point to short pages. It would be useful to be able to
enable this as the default setting for a wiki, for multiple reasons:
- in some wikis a lot of power users enabled it already to find articles which
need some care, and currently it slows down page loading for them because it
breaks caching, so they are working slower than they could.
- like red links, green links could bring in new editors by making readers
realize that some of the linked articles need help.
- they could also help readers waste less time because they could realize the
article is a stub without clicking at it.

Currently, enabling the stub threshold by default is not possible because (if I
understand correctly) pages rendered with non-zero stub threshold are not
cached at all. It would be helpful fo both readers and editors if that could be
fixed.
