As a translator, I aggree with Siebrand single words should not be used in

Content pages was suggested and a patch merged and shortly reverted. This is a
horribly ambiguous word which means nothing to the average user, especially on
Wikipedia where it really means

That is an invalid use case from an i18n perspective. See the i18n
documentation.

Core should just be:
'main-namespace-page' = '{{PLURAL:$1|page|pages}}'
Wikipedia would then override it to:

I think you're looking for key 'article' which has a default value of 'content
page'. Content pages are not confined to the main namespace, as there can be
multiple content namespaces.

I think it's possible that one specific to the main namespace might be needed,
but we can cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, I'm okay with doing
