[Bug 28067] Request to move WiKansai to Wikimedia servers

--- Comment #4 from Aphaia aph...@gmail.com 2011-03-16 07:54:50 UTC ---
TEPCO modified their plan where and when to make blackouts, his neighborhood is
now out of planned blackout area in the latest version of schedule.

Our wiki will therefore be running safely and without problem at that moment,
while I'd love to see it running always undisturbed.

However, somehow the TS_POSTGRES formatted time should be supplied to the

[Bug 28074] New: Request for an embeddable per-user gallery (a new Special:NewFiles/TheUsername)

2011-03-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon

 Version: wikimedia-deployment
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Images and files
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: g.m.haged...@gmail.com
CC: bryan.tongm...@gmail.com

Situation: Special:Myuploads, which is redirected to
Special:ListFiles/TheUsername, lists a in a technical tabular style the
recent file uploads. It is not embeddable (no inclusion in another page), but
this is not desirable for the technical style anyways.

However, Special:NewFiles a) displays in a gallery style and b) is
embeddable as . For a user to show ones-own uploaded images
on a user pages, a form like Special:NewFiles/TheUsername would be desirable.

This enhancement proposal to create an embeddable and user-filtered version of
Special:NewFiles/TheUsername. I believe the patch provided in bug also 3341
provided this functionality (but the bug request was only optionally also a
gallery, so the bug is probably validly closed).

#ask is unnecessarily expanding default=, it should be deferring expansion like
#if and other parser functions do.

This means that for templates using something like:

The second #ask is always executed, running unnecessary extra sql queries and
affecting performance in cases where the first #ask does in fact have contents.

I saw bug 3341, was fixed, and was looking at my uploads on commons. I noticed
that the special:listfiles doesn't handle extremely narrow images very well.

For example:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:ListFilesoffset=Wn-gradient.pnsort=img_namelimit=1

Observed behaviour: thumbnail is 180x80820 px (!)

Expected behaviour: In extreme cases such as this, don't scale it so it fulls
the width of the entire column. I think a reasonable max width cut off would be
500px.

I'm not sure. I don't have a full understanding of the traversed code. The RSS
Watchlist logic uses the API subsystem. This may be used in other ways that
require the timestamp to be in TS_MW format. Someone with more intimate
knowledge of this part of MW will have to determine what is going on and how to
solve the problem.

Changing the bug summary to serve also for wikisource.org, which has the same
problem (and additionally, it doesn't have any sensible generic interwiki
prefix neither, only oldwikisource:).
The mul: prefix would be a language-like prefix which links to
betawikiversity from Wikiversities and to multilingual Wikisource from
Wikisources, so you could use actual interwikis shown in the sidebar or use
s:mul: and v:mul: instead of oldwikisource: and
betawikiversity:.
The mul code is a ISO 639 standard:

See also

[Bug 27139] WikiBhasha does not work with Wikipedia's secure server

At least for the bookmarklet code the fix should be easy, because currently it
is just checking location.href against the regex:
/^(http):\/\/[A-Za-z]+.(wikipedia.org)/

but it could check for
/^(http):\/\/[a-z0-9\-]+.(wikipedia.org)|https:\/\/secure\.wikimedia\.org\/wikipedia\//i

or something like that. See also the regex used on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.js/secure.js

Can the Invisible sort key be used to solve the problem on this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita ?

Currently if you sort by Rank you see 1, 10, 100, 101 which isn't correct.
Otherwise, if this is an unrelated problem should I file a separate bug
report?

just to add a +1 to flax...@gmail.com's comment, I noticed the same bug here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_density#Energy_densities_ignoring_external_components

sorting by Energy density by volume (MJ/L) gets you a couple of interesting
sequences, including
43.5, 5.6, 6.02, 72.4
75.1, 8.8, 83.8, 9
38.2, 4.633016x10^104, 40.8

I can see mishandling the exponential value, but am confused as to why it
didn't end up between 4 and 5, instead of 38 and 40. The ordering doesn't even
make sense. At first I thought it was just ignoring the decimal place, but that
doesn't even work for any but the first string I copied.

I'm no coder, so sorry, I can offer no suggestions as to fixes, but it does
appear to be a common thing with the sorting.

patch to still get response body for non-200 response codes

After discussion on irc, turns out the issue is in PhpHttpRequest, not
CurlHttpRequest.

Here's a patch that should in theory fix it, and does fix it for Nikerabbit,
but doesn't work for me :(

I'm not entirely sure whats going on, but I get http-read-errors (aka $fh is
null) for any request that isn't a 200.

I want to be able to produce a list of categories that are sub categories of a
specific category.

This gives me everything under the KB category in the main namespace:

Following the documentation for limiting results to a specific namespace, this
gives me everything in the Category namespace, i.e. ALL categories:

But this gives me nothing:

How else can one query all pages in the Category namespace, that are in the KB
category?

This requested feature is available if going to your Preferences, and, in the
section User interface gadgets, activating HistoryNumDiff

That only works on en.wikipedia and requires a piece of JavaScript. Not a fix
for this request to add it in MediaWiki software itself.

What that gadget does or doesn't do shouldn't be topic of this ticket, although
it can be used as inspiration and/or suggestion for implementation method, it's
not part of the software.

It hasn't been added to core at all right now, so if/when it will be added the
size will most likely not be removed.

This code still works (with very minor modifications). I've attached a patch
that should apply cleanly on the 1.17 branch (and most probably on trunk too).

The claim of ~5% improvement in time also still checks out (I didn't check with
the php extension disabled though). Crude kcachegrind screenshots of a profiled
run of dumpBackup.php with and without the patch here[1].

make test passes.

It seems like this has been fixed

That category is using custom sortkeys with 3 digit 0-padding (see

[Bug 28079] New: Broken paging in list=categorymembers and cmcontinue

That looks like a duplicate of #27965 which was fixed in r83814.
But it still occurs with de.wikipedia.org which says to run on
1.17wmf1 (Version 84096)
(version info is taken from: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spezial:Version).

To reproduce with de.wikipedia.org:

Step (1) Initial query
http://de.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=querylist=categorymemberscmtitle=Kategorie:Weiblicher_Vornamecmlimit=10
The query results seem correct, and the cmcontinue (as on March16,21:00) is:
categorymembers cmcontinue=5112040 /
Both the list result and the cmcontinue value are as expected.

Step (2) Follow-up query
http://de.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=querylist=categorymemberscmtitle=Kategorie:Weiblicher_Vornamecmlimit=10cmcontinue=5112040

That result is mixed up now. The first items are the same as with Step (1). The
cmcontinue-item apears in the middle of the list. When testing with different
cmlimit values, the behaviour differs (the cmcontinue-item may be even missing
in the followup results.)

--- Comment #13 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2011-03-16 21:06:51 UTC ---
That doesn't work fully. It does fix it for a single view of a category page,
but the way its broken up between next/prev boundries doesn't change.

As a result you can have situations where you could have the last entry in one
page of a category not be followed by the first entry in the next page, which
would just be weird. Thus I don't think we should do that.

[Bug 28080] New: ArticleFeedback should have option to define namespaces where it is enabled

2011-03-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28080

Summary: ArticleFeedback should have option to define
namespaces where it is enabled
 Product: MediaWiki extensions
 Version: any
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: [other]
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mybugs.m...@gmail.com

Some wikis have its content in other namespaces besides the main namespace.
E.g. English Wikibooks has a b:Cookbook namespace (for recipes) and
Portuguese Wikipedia has an pt:Anexo namespace (for lists and other
stuff).

As of r83924, ext.articleFeedback.startup.js has the following test:
mw.config.get( 'wgNamespaceNumber', false ) === 0

Instead of this, the extension should check if the the current
wgNamespaceNumber is in a predefined list of namespaces (configurable per
wiki).

I haven't looked in detail to the code, but I think you need to move the
construction of the Revision object higher up so that you can also hide
rc_user_text.

Also check whether the construction of a Revision object does cause an extra
SQL query. Perhaps it is best to use Revision::selectFields() (not sure of the
exact name) to get the required select fields.

I propose to add two new hooks, one should be called when adding a group to a

add/remove groups from a remote authentication/authorization service.

I attached a proposed patch which should work fine and is tested with an

Not for English (depending on the wording), but it might be harder in others.
What I want the message to convey is what the page lists in general (i.e. all
pages where X) and not what happens to be in it (these pages have X).

If this is done, it would be easier (code wise) to move the message below the
form but above the list. PLURAL would also have to be added to all the form
legends too.

Apologies if this is a duplicate.
It was suggested to me (and so I am passing it on) that we allow login to the
projects with an email address as well as a username. So the field would read
Username (or email address):

The idea behind this is that for casual editors, remembering one's username is
a pain, especially on a big project like Wikimedia where many common usernames
may be already taken. The step of trying to recover a lost username and
password takes of valuable time and is frustrating and may be a slight barrier
to entry for casual editors.

Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement

again apologies if this is a dupe.
There should be some sort of explanation for the Log me in globally checkbox
on the user login screen. There is no way currently to figure out what this
means and it doesn't make much sense if you don't already understand about SUL
etc. There could just be a small what's this or tooltip link next to the
option.

I'm not really sure who maintains the qqq messages used by translatewiki. It's
on the todo list to take over that.

The committer who changes a message that has a corresponding qqq message should
update the qqq message.

[Bug 12600] Create project namespace alias COM for Commons

This request is only for a local alias. If and when sucha com: language prefix
would be used on our projects, we (Commons community) will have to fix our
links.

That is no different from the current situation since there already are links
to COM: and pages existant with those names.

Please add the wgNamespaceAliases for commonswiki from 'COM' to NS_PROJECT and
run the link fixer to append /BROKEN to any dupes.

(In reply to comment #2)
I don't know how the backend of it currently works (ie. periodically
 generated
static HTML files, or some PHP/Python/whatever backend that pulls data from
 a
 database).

If the former I think we should wait untill it's made more dynamic so that
styles can be centrally managed. With a more modular approach (eg. an
 index.php
that takes parameter like action, wiki, uselang), and some rewrite rules to
make it nice. Which will make creating a design and user interface a lot
 easier.

I think its periodically generated html from a perl script. See
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/wikistats/ I don't really see
how making it dynamic would make changing the output style any easier or
harder.

Having static files means styling/testing it requires re-running the scripts
and see what possible variations there are.

Having it dynamic, object oriented and managed as an output/skin thing makes it
a lot easier and the layout will be abstracted seperately from the content.

Right now it would probably mean having to edit bits and pieces of HTML string
all over the place.

Validation for multiple deeds doesn't seem to be working.

* upload multiple files,
* then select pick copyright info individually at release rights
* try to submit details page without filling out deeds, should cause validation
errors above deeds, but doesn't.
* other validation appears to be working, though.
