When editing source, there would be an edit notice advising of the pending change, which is not present with VisualEditor. Nonetheless, edits by an administrator account are supposed to be automatically accepted. Instead, my edit was made subject to review. To think that future versions of MediaWiki will be crippled longterm by this incredibly buggy and slow visual editor is very discouraging. At the very least there needs to be a preference for direct edit and edit source links built in to MediaWiki preferences on the edit tab of preferences. MediaWiki installations should not need a gadget preference added for this by each webmaster of every MediaWiki installation. The hidden link to edit source is slowing down many editors. I've noticed a couple of times that users on VE/Feedback have said that they
'couldn't change the block and that it became blue', which I think is an
indication they were unable to spot the template edit button.
Now I noticed that the edit button anchor for templates is always at the top
right. On 100% width block elements, the content can often be completely left
aligned however, and the button is then to the FAR right of the page, making it
easy to miss.
For instance, take the {{Refbegin}}-{{refend} block on this page

fairly large monitor.
It might be nice if we could come up with some idea to more intelligently place
the button. if( block !width computedWidth 160em text_align == left)
then align button left
Point 2:
Also, the white button on the blue mask on top of the white page is not the
highest contrasting style. Styling it stronger might also make it easier to
discover for users.
Point 3:
The puzzle piece in that context doesn't give the user much info. Why not a
simple Edit logo ? I think that would be way easier to understand.

Parser function syntax is generally {{#function_name : expr1 | expr2 | expr3 |
...}}
Currently VE sees this as a template with name #function_name : expr1 and
arguments 1 = expr2, 2 = expr3, etc. This makes it impossible to edit expr1
in VE.
Same for parserfunctions like urlencode: If the template editor cannot handle
these then it shouldn't present an editor for it.

It uses strtotime() to parse them, and it returns a non-error value for both 10 years (on 64-bit systems, apparently) and a potato (don't ask me why). When the banner gets inserted, it shifts the whole page content down. This causes two problems: 1) The shifting often takes place when I'm just about to follow a link on my watchlist or on history pages. The moment I click the content shifts down and I'm clicking nowhere or even follow the wrong link. This happens quite a lot actually! 2) Even neglecting the shifting issue, the CentralNotice changes layout of pages. Most noticeable, the heading of a page (which I think is a central part of a page if not *the* central part) is shifted. While its at least not an usability problem like 1) I don't like it all personally - what do others think? I therefore propose to think about a different way to show the CentralNotice. I solved it temporarily with some CSS to absolutely position the #siteNotice div at the top of the page (see attachment), but this is far from perfect (It breaks as soon as the buttons are shifted or the browser window is reduced to very small width). However it gives a nice impression of what *could* be possible. The collation class (or rather the third party icu library used by it) is rather complex. I'm doubtful we could re-create it in javascript sanely. For example, it needs to do sorting on three different levels, be able to dynamically insert new in-between values, etc. We also don't even know what rules are being used at runtime (as the php bindings don't expose that, and it changes with version). OTOH, I suppose it doesn't need to be exactly the same.
