I tried to puppetize this in Gerrit change #107010, but it turned out that using ferm (base::firewall) for iptables has severe side effects (like locking myself out from my test instance :-)). There is however an alternative that is rather easy to set up and maintain: Move the aliases to DNS, and the NAT rules to the DB servers itself. This way we only have to test (and worry) about three hosts and not dozens. This would include: - allocating seven IP addresses, - routing them to the LabsDB servers, - setting up a DNS zone labsdb with the aliases pointing at the IP addresses, - setting up firewall and NAT on the LabsDB servers. Thus, new instances in Tools and other Labs projects would have instant access (minus credentials) to the replica servers. It did NOT work. (Once the CSS was applied, a JavaScript changed the style. Disabling JavaScripts avoided restyling and left the textarea untouched, but cannot be a working solution) Most various instances are pretty recent, such as tests freshly pulled from git this year, or translatewiki.net - all with the vector skin. Omegawiki exhibits the problem, too, but is not very recent: MediaWiki1.21.1 (df12d1d) See https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=User:Purodha/common.cssaction=edit If I leload that page via a throttled connection (disallow browser to load more than one file simultanously) I can see the edit window appear monospaced first, then proportional a moment later. This may point to a script specific to translatewiki.net and Omegawiki, or to a script that is usually not enabled by default, but is at least on these two. Also possibly, the script is activated due to my user settings such as gadgets. Is it desired behaviour not returning the redirect pages? In the `createBox` method I do something like: $el.html( $el.html() ); Its to refresh the DOM and display the SVG elements (see comments in the method) that were added in the `createThumbnail` method. The elements created there follow [1] and thus are escaped. 2. To create the SVG element that masks the popup to create the triangle I do: $svg.html( 'svg width=0 height=0.../svg' ); Making this through jQuery methods was becoming to verbose. This a plain string with no concatenation from anywhere so I guess its safe. 3. There is an i18n string if the page redirects, it needs to read like redirects to OtherPage. As in certain languages it could be OtherPage… and not …OtherPage, Mark suggested that I add a $1 to it [2]. As I need those elements to be styled a certain way, the i18n strings will end up having an h3 and thus my code looks something like this $( 'div' ).html( mw.message( 'popups-redirects', redirects[ 0 ].to ).text() ); I am not sure if this is safe. This bug occurs in Internet Explorer 8 in extension WikiEditor.
Steps to reproduce:
* Open a long text with WikiEditor for example:
https://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Spielwieseaction=editoldid=127895879
* Scroll in the middle of the text.
* Position the cursor with the mouse in the middle of the text.
* Insert a text from the WikiEditor toolbar, for example the signature.
-- The textarea scrolls up a few lines.
The textarea scrolls also up a few lines, when you enter or leave the textarea.
Other versions of Internet Explorer are not tested. This bug doesn't occur in
other browsers.
This bug doesn't occur in core editor.

A workaround for this bug is

WMUK decided it might want to start hosting its own website, and so discussed with WMF that possibility. WMUK is not the first chapter to do so, and probably won't be the last. From the very start, the plan has always involved eventually shutting down ukwikimedia and redirecting uk.wikimedia.org to wikimedia.org (the opposite to what was previously happening). When this bug were initially filed, we additionally requested ukwikimedia to be moved to a different domain. On finally being informed that a ukwikimedia rename was probably more trouble than it's worth, we agreed to only go with the URL redirect, which again was always in the plan, we're just wanting it a bit earlier than we had originally planned to.
