I'll think about one-at-a-time fetching and only-if-cached fetching some more
later, but right now I just wanna get some sleep :P

I decided to go with only-if-cached fetching, which I implemented in r47890.
This implementation will let you pull an unlimited number of cached diffs and
at most $wgAPIMaxUncachedDiffs (1 by default) uncached diffs.

You guys are probably pestered about this all he time, but will it be possible
sometime to allow noinclude to work in the MediaWiki: namespace? This tag
would be invaluable to description and documentation. Thanks.

[Bug 17716] New: Some categories remain in Wantedcategories but they are empty

2009-02-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17716

Summary: Some categories remain in Wantedcategories but they are
empty
 Product: Wikimedia
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
 URL: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Wantedcategories
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Site requests
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: seb.be...@free.fr

On the French-language Wikipedia, some empty categories are displayed on the
special page fr:Special:Wantedcategories since some years, although they
have been deleted and are empty since some years. These categories are :
- * (noms vernaculaires) (where * is Flore, Mammifère, Oiseau,
Lépidoptère, Coléoptère), since June 2006
- * (noms scientifiques) (where * is Faune, Flore, Araignée), since
June 2006
- Nom de scène sous forme de prénom, since 2007
- possibly Faune de France (lépidoptère) and Ulvophytes (nom
scientifique), since 2007
- possibly others
Could you see if you can remove these categories from the list ?
Perhaps it is just a temporary problem in MySQL (when these categories have
been deleted) or possibly a deeper problem in MediaWiki.

Thank you

[Bug 17718] New: Disable CentralNotice extension on UK chapter website

2009-02-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Summary: Disable CentralNotice extension on UK chapter website

Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement

Please could the CentralNotice extension
(http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CentralNotice) be disabled on the
Wikimedia UK chapter website (ukwikimedia)?

If I understand things correctly, this is responsible for Wikimedia Foundation
notices being displayed in the sitenotice for the wiki. These aren't really
appropriate for the chapter website, and may lead to the perception that
Wikimedia UK has more control over Wikipedia et al. then we do (which is tricky
from a legal situation, with the UK's libel laws).

Thanks in advance.

(In reply to comment #0)
The meta=userinfouiprop=rights-Request show only the rights of the groups and
not the current rights the user have.

For example: After a IP-block with 'flags=anononly, nocreate, noautoblock' the
request show this:
rcreateaccount/r
rread/r
redit/r
rcreatepage/r
rcreatetalk/r
rwriteapi/r
rcentralauth-merge/r

But by the block I lose the right edit, createpage, createtalk and
createaccount, but it is not available through the API.

Technically, you don't. According to MediaWiki you still have these rights:
isAllowed('edit') returns true. However, executing certain actions requires
more than just having the right rights, some require you not to be blocked or
read-only mode to be off. In other words, having a certain right and being able
to execute a certain action are not the same things.

I don't think mixing documentation with contents in this case is a good idea.
However, there has been talk about providing a mechanism to show the existing

prevent implementing it right now.

[Bug 17723] New: noinclude not working while includeonly does with pages to be preloaded

2009-02-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17723

Summary: noinclude not working while includeonly does with pages
to be preloaded
 Product: Wikimedia
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: diegode...@gmx.net

Hello,
I thought that both the noincludes and the includeonlys are funcionality
that complement each other, but I found one case where includeonly DOES work
but noinclude DOES NOT. The problem occurs when I call a page with both
noincludes and includeonlys via a preload (in Spanish precarga) from another
page, e.g.:
http://es.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Wikipedia:Tabl%C3%B3n_de_anuncios_de_los_bibliotecarios/Portal/Plantillas/Reversor/Actualaction=editsection=newpreload=Wikipedia:Tabl%C3%B3n_de_anuncios_de_los_bibliotecarios/Portal/Plantillas/Reversor/precarga

If the code of that proload page looks like:
includeonly
noinclude/noinclude

the result will be:

noinclude/noinclude

instead of:

Somehow the code within the includeonlys is considered but the code between the
noicludes is not left out.

Regards, SUL:Poco a poco

--- Comment #27 from Michael Walsh michaelj.wa...@oceanfree.net 2009-02-28
20:17:51 UTC ---
This one's been around for quite a while...

The problem here is that MediaWiki treats all extension tags as if they don't
contain wikitext, so extensions that do contain wikitext, such as Cite, have to
call the parser themselves. And in so doing miss out on the pre-save
transformations.

Ideally we should be able to set extension hooks so that their wikitext output
gets parser along with everything else.

[Bug 17724] New: add patch instructions to a comment at the top of each patch file

2009-02-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17724

Summary: add patch instructions to a comment at the top of each
patch file
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.14.0
 Platform: All
 URL: http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2009-
February/041731.html
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: Installation
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jida...@jidanni.org

How does one apply mediawiki-1.14.0.patch.gz and
mediawiki-i18n-1.14.0.patch.gz to mediawiki-1.14.0rc1 to produce
mediawiki-1.14.0?

# ls mediawiki-1.14.0rc1
# zcat mediawiki-1.14.0.patch.gz | patch
can't find file to patch at input line 4
Perhaps you should have used the -p or --strip option?
RK I think you have to use -p1 here.

Doesn't work.

Without proper instructions commented into the tops of mediawiki patch
files, they are next to worthless.

The instructions should say
# 1) cd to the directory where you have the directory tree to be
# patched, and put the patch files there.
# 2) ls should now show you
# $ ls -dl mediawiki-*
# -rw-r--r-- 1 fuz fuz5310 2009-02-26 07:10 mediawiki-1.14.0.patch.gz
# drwxr-xr-x 15 fuz fuz2048 2009-02-26 20:22 mediawiki-1.14.0rc1
# -rw-r--r-- 1 fuz fuz 1952692 2009-02-26 07:10 mediawiki-i18n-1.14.0.patch.gz

# $ zcat mediawiki-1.14.0.patch.gz | patch -..
# $ zcat mediawiki-i18n-1.14.0 | patch -..
# 4) ls should now show

Knowing how to apply a patch is not something MediaWiki should be documenting
IMO; people who download a patch instead of a full tarball should know how to
apply a patch or at least be prepared to find out. Recommend WONTFIX

If you have a directory called mediawiki-1.14.0-rc1 already, you should be able
to apply the patch from the directory above it either without options or by
using -p0. If you're *in* the mediawiki-1.14.0-rc1 directory, -p1 should work.

Alternatively, the problem could simply be that you've removed the config/
directory, which the patch is trying to modify.

man page says:
patch tries to skip any leading garbage, apply the diff, and then skip any
trailing garbage. Thus you could
feed an article or message containing a diff listing to patch, and it should
work. If the entire diff is
indented by a consistent amount, or if a context diff contains lines ending
in CRLF or is encapsulated one or
more times by prepending - to lines starting with - as specified by
Internet RFC 934, this is taken into
account. After removing indenting or encapsulation, lines beginning with #
are ignored, as they are considered
to be comments.

Comment from original reporter:

Hi, here comes a problem on Gan wikipedia: the talk pages of all articles
aren't available right now. When we choose an article randomly, XXX, we'll get
User talk:XXX instead of Talk:XXX and User talk:XXX is surely to be empty. I
was told the problem might come from the wrong translation on [1] but no one
translated recently. So could you please check this problem for us? Thanks!
--Symane 14:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

So, it seems that clicking on the talk tab for an article leads to a user talk
page (with the same name as the article).
From my small analysis, mwr:46913 may be responsible for this.

[Bug 17727] New: Live video streaming

2009-02-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17727

 Summary: Live video streaming
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: tim...@email.com

Currently users can upload images to mediawiki, but not live video streams.
Mediawiki should have a feature that allows users to embed their live stream
into a mediawiki article page. It should be hosted by the mediawiki software.
Users can use their usb webcams or iPhone/iPhone3G.
If a live video stream is available on a mediawiki article page, there should
be a WATCH button at the top of the page, users click on it, and all the live
video streams for that article are displayed.

What could this be used for?

As an example, say a person saw a plane crash into a river, and it was all over
the news and within an hour an article was posted in a wiki, people go to the
wiki to read about it, and if a person with a oomputer or cellphone is at the
scene and they go to the wiki's url, embed their live video stream, and now
people going to the wiki article can watch the plane crash live.

In the special pages section there could be a live streams section, and
when users go to it, the most viewed streams will be displayed from most viewed
to least viewed. The current number of people viewing each live stream should
be displayed along with the rating, url, and comments, and there should be a
live chatroom box on the video stream page too.

The mediawiki live video stream player should use adobe flash or program your
own open-source flash player so users don't have to download anything, and it
should be widescreen 16:9 and support up to HD 1080i but also support lower
quality like HD 1080p, HD 720p, SD(standard definition) 16:9 and SD 4:3(non
widescreen). The video player size should be 640x385 pixels.

This should be part of the core of the next version of mediawiki because photo
uploads is part of the core, so live video streams should be too.

special page by transclusions. That is to say, if page A links to page Z, and
page B transcludes page A, the whatlinkshere page for Z will show both A and B.
There should be a featured that allows users to go to Z's whatlinkshere page
and filter out transcluded pages or to include only transcluded pages.
