[Bug 19229] Captcha in the latin script fails people who do not do Latin
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19229 --- Comment #4 from Happy-melon happy-me...@live.com 2009-06-18 08:39:19 UTC --- (In reply to comment #2) (In reply to comment #1) I bet 99% of captcha crackers can't even *begin* to analyse non-latin scripts. There's probably a significant increase in security to be had from opening up the character set used in the captchas. I don't see how, unless you start giving non-latin captchas to everyone, in which case we will quickly find outselves without any new accounts... If you give a Cyrillic captcha on ruwiki, that means only spambots that can read a cyrillic captcha (or who can navigate the vagarities of CentralAuth) can spam on ruwiki. Ditto for every other wiki on which we can serve a non-latin captcha. No, it doesn't provide increased security on say, enwiki, because we need to continue to serve latin captchas there, but wherever we *can* serve captchas in other scripts, we get improved security. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19276 --- Comment #2 from Splarka h...@goldrush.com 2009-06-18 09:16:44 UTC --- This would be broken into little pieces by cache, and rather useless I think. Here is an experimental gadget. It is necessarly a big ugly horrible mash of functions to find what timezone offset the time given was actually in (one can NOT assume it is the same as the browser's): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Splarka/lastmod.js What could be done, is to have li id=lastmod contain a comment like: li id=lastmod This page was last modified on 18 June 2009 at 00:54. !--1245316447-- /li This then could very easily be parsed as a Unix timestamp by javascript, making the above gadget about 1/10th the size, with no API calls. There would also be no cache issues. [Bug 19281] New: Page-category mapping feature
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19281 Web browser: --- Summary: Page-category mapping feature Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: Categories AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: cat...@vp.pl There's a perennial problem over what to do with eponymous categories - whether (for example) Category:London should be assigned as a subcategory of Category:English cities, and if it is, whether London should then be taken out of the latter category (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Categorization/Eponymous_RFC for a discussion that shows there's currently no entirely satisfactory solution). Anyway, the problem would largely go away if the following feature could be implemented, and I wonder if it would be feasible. The idea is that we could map a page to a distinguished category (for example, the syntax with a space sortkey would cause that category to be the distinguished category for the current page, say Xxx). This would have two effects (besides placing the page in the category as now): 1) on the page, an additional category box would appear containing the Categories for Xxx, i.e. the categories to which Xxx has been assigned, even though Category:Xxx itself has not been assigned to them; 2) on any other category containing Xxx, there would be a category expand button (a + sign or something) next to Xxx on the list of pages, which would expand to the category tree for Category:Xxx (thus allowing access to Category:Xxx from every category containing Xxx without the need to make it a subcategory of all those categories). I know it sounds complicated, but I can assure you it would make this functionality much slicker for both editors and viewers. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 19285] Add the old Monobook background (or something like it) to Vector
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19285 Trevor Parscal tpars...@wikimedia.org changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution||WONTFIX --- Comment #2 from Trevor Parscal tpars...@wikimedia.org 2009-06-18 20:46:47 UTC --- The removal of the book in the background was deliberate. The theme is based on a gradient style, which both technically and aesthetically clashes with the concept of using a background image. At some point, we will need to let go of MonoBook to move forward. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 19288] New: Gadget usage statistics

Knowing the usage patterns of gadgets would allow to identify rarely used and too exotic gadgets that would be better used as a traditional user script. This would help in maintaining the gadget selection list at a user friendly size and would also help to prioritize gadget development. In addition to the absolute numbers, the most meaningful information would be about active users, with single-use testing-only accounts and dormant accounts excluded. A simple definition of active user could be someone who has registered more than two months ago and was active during the last month. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
