Spam blacklist blocks only external links, everything else, including domain
names in plaitext is legit.

use Mediawiki with advertisements. The Wikipedia project certainly doesnt.
This is likely not too easy.

It's still not the current wiki.

At the moment all interwiki prefixes (wiktionary wikibooks etc.) are treated

of external in the appropriate way.

Based on IRC chat, this is actually a request to have it set for the WMF wikis
to have MW marked as iw_local in the interwiki table.

Including the relevant IRC chat below:
liangent https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22407#c1 what does he
mean?
liangent sorry... maybe #wikimedia-tech
cirwin liangent: well, I wrote it
cirwin maybe I misunderstood you :)
cirwin what do you mean by local?
liangent iw_local field in interwiki table
cirwin oh, yes
cirwin I did misunderstand you
* cirwin does not know enough about anything to make comments
liangent :)
cirwin that said, wikimedia: is not local either
p858snake iw_local informs MediaWiki how it should treat interwiki links
coming from external sources. If iw_local is 1, then it will treat these links
as though they were generated from within the local wiki.
p858snake Mediawiki isn't only used by WMF so therefor we shouldn't be
setting something like that as a default accross new installs if i understand
what you're asking properly
cirwin p858snake: mayhaps you'd like to write a proper comment on the bug :)
liangent p858snake: i mean setting it on wmf wikis
liangent not for default mw installations

I have just checked this with MediaWiki 1.16 and the latest version of
ConfirmEdit extension. The problem no longer occurs with the cookie when
 anonymous users do edits.

Well, the edit page itself initialized the session, so it would never be an
issue with editing anyway. The problem only arises if you want to use
ConfirmEdit for some activity that does not of and by itself require a session.

safesubst: allows for safe substitution at either parse (to avoid breaking
stuff that relies on the difference); pipe tricks are now also implemented at
both stage of the parse; (as of r62029).

I think implementing signatures later in the parse would be very complicated,
might lead to privacy concerns, as anyone who caused the cache to purge might
end up with their signature in a page they'd never edited.

Thus if there is an issue that needs fixing here, it is with mediawiki
(including wikipedia), thus the person should not send bug reports to those
 individual sites.

There is no issue that needs fixing here. The issue occurs also for the
reported with HTML websites, that have nothing to do with MediaWiki/Wikipedia.
Such as the W3 one. It is a computer configuration issue, and nothing to do
with mediawiki/wikipedia.

AUTOINCREMENT columns aren't guaranteed to be allocated sequentially; values
can be skipped. In particular, if a transaction inserts a row, then gets
rolled back rather than committed, there will be a gap, since the id is
assigned at insert time and not at commit time. Autoincrementing is visible
immediately, even across transaction boundaries -- which would be a violation
of transactional semantics if id's were guaranteed to be sequential, but they
aren't.

(This probably doesn't account for *that* many missing revisions, though.)

[Bug 20186] Allow filtering history and contributions lists for revision deletion

2010-02-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #20 from Aryeh Gregor simetrical+wikib...@gmail.com 2010-02-07
00:02:11 UTC ---
So will cases where two rows are inserted at about the same time, and the
rev_timestamp computed for the first happens to be slightly later than the
rev_timestamp computed for the other -- e.g., Apaches' clocks being different.
But the question is whether this assumption is violated often enough to merit
an extra indexed column on a new table. I doubt it will come up often enough
to be worth the trouble, in this case.

[Bug 20186] Allow filtering history and contributions lists for revision deletion

2010-02-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #21 from Tim Starling tstarl...@wikimedia.org 2010-02-07 00:35:30

Sorted lists of revisions, such as history and contributions, are always
ordered by timestamp. This avoids misordering in cases such as undeletion and
Special:Import. Yes, there may be misordering of rev_timestamp due to clock
skew, but it will only be seconds, not years, so people will usually not notice
it. And edits to the same paragraph are always correctly ordered using
rev_timestamp since the edit conflict mechanism implicitly protects it.

Yes, Title::getNextRevisionID() uses rev_id, this is an unfortunate performance
hack and will lead to inaccurate results due to import and undelete.

Some preliminary work to create a demonstration of the advantages of using SMW
to handle extensions was undertaken at the following SMW site:

http://extensions.referata.com/wiki/Main_Page

However, more work needs to be put into that site to make it a convincing
demonstration of the benefits of SMW.

Hello,
I have recently had problems with my MediaWiki where my web host has set up
Apache to automatically append a JavaScript to the end of every PHP script,
which breaks my wiki's JavaScript and CSS (generated by MediaWiki:Common.js,
etc).
To resolve this, I have added exit(); to the last line of my wiki's index.php,
which prevents the counter script being appended, but I would like to ask if
exit(); can be added to the last line of index.php in the next SVN revision of
MediaWiki, after $mediaWiki-restInPeace() is called.
Thanks.

You can sort of already do this in a limited way with the DoEditSectionLink
hook (However any inserted html would be in the h2 and it wouldn't work for
any pages with __NOSECTIONEDIT__ on, and determining which section number
you're at might be difficult if some of the sections are transcluded), or the
ParserBeforeStrip hook (To look for sections, and add an extension tag or
something in the appropriate place). Neither of those hooks would be ideal
though for what you are trying to do.

{{pipetrick:}} is definitely nice, however it should be accompanied by the
complement set of variables to random {{..PAGENAME(E)}} variables (see
[[mw:Help:Magic words#Page_names]]), so one wouldn't have to create ugly
templates with content like {{TALKPAGENAME:{{NAMESPACE}}:{{pipetrick:
{{{title|{{PAGENAME} (to get {{TALKPAGENAMEP}}), which are indeed much
more expensive than single variable which returns the same. Alternative (maybe
even better) may be adding of |P ({{TALKPAGENAME|P}} etc.).
