I'm marking this as WONTFIX: firstly tag extensions can't detect the surrounding content, and secondly HTML doesn't allow a forceful enough indication that the comma and image are not to be split. As a 99% solution, the following wikitext seems to work, and you could put that in a template for re-use: span style=display:inline-block;math\frac{hyphenation}{problem}/math,/span This keeps the comma and image linked until the page is narrow enough for only the image, which is likely to be good enough. The other way would be to put the comma in the math directly, but then it looks different, of course. math\frac{hyphenation}{problem},/math -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24177 --- Comment #3 from Hamilton Abreu rui.hamilton.ab...@gmail.com 2010-07-01 20:32:44 UTC --- The edit at mediawiki.org has been rolled back. So as to be clear, the issue was initially raised because I was following the anchor link by opening it in a new tab, rather than simply just clicking it. This, of course, comes from a habit acquired way before the are you sure you want to navigate away from this page warning. You send everything to new tabs, in order not to ever disrupt the edit while previewing it. I actually believe most users do the same, but anyway... the mentioned effect then ensues. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. The same DVCS virtues he extols apply to Git or Bazaar or probably even Darcs. Now, as to *which* DVCS to switch to, here's a pretty persuasive case for Git: http://blog.extracheese.org/2010/05/why-i-switched-to-git-from-mercurial.html (...and I say this as someone who has been using Mercurial for the past couple of years) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24177 --- Comment #4 from Hamilton Abreu rui.hamilton.ab...@gmail.com 2010-07-01 20:48:53 UTC --- For the benefit of anyone unaware of the effect, if the abbreviated anchor link is opened in a new tab during page preview of the edit, instead of jumping to the anchored section of the page the original text is again opened for editing, due to the action=submit#Anchor ending of the URL. If, instead of abbreviating the URL, the full pagename is used, then the original text (not the edit being previewed) is opened in the new tab and the browser jumps to the anchored section, if it existed in the original text. So, opening anchors in new tabs never fully works as one might initially have expected. It's not obvious how to avoid this -- if the parser generates the id's before preprocessing, it will miss any that come from templates, but if it generates them after, you can have stupid stuff like {{CURRENTTIME}}. You could also have *really* stupid stuff like == {{foo}} == where {{foo}} expands to text == == more text Hard to say what to do in these cases. Ideally we should have the parser and non-parser code agreeing on section id's at least if they don't have any curly braces/parser functions in them, which is the common case. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 24221] New: Possibly grammatical error shown on all pages

We've made a few improvements to Wikipedia. Learn more. is currently shown on most of wikipedias pages, I'm not a native speaker, but from what I learned in school you should always use any rather than some in questions, and if this is so it looks _very_ bad to have a grammatical error in that place. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 24222] New: Implement @uris and @alternateURIs
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24222 Summary: Implement @uris and @alternateURIs Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: Page editing AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: bret...@yahoo.com Hi, I have proposed two new attributes be added to HTML5, @uris and @alternateURIs for the a/ element. (This is relevant to Mediawiki, please keep reading) Custom protocols or URNs have very limited usefulness to any site such as Wikipedia if the link will do nothing when clicked. This proposal allows: 1) specification of protocols to be tried first as part of a link (a uris=.../), and failing that, falling back to 'href' (which will work fine in non-supporting browsers). 2) specification of protocols that can be auto-detected by a supporting browser and opened via right-click or the like, but which does not override the href attribute by default. The editor of the HTML5 specification suggested that I try this out first as an extension (which I did at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/162154/ ) so that it could be gauged whether there were sufficient interest in the community for this kind of functionality. Given that HTML5 is to support custom protocols, and given the failure of potentially useful URNs from taking off, I think it is pretty obvious that something must be done to foster experimentation with URNs and non-HTTP protcols since no one wants to click a link that does nothing. I believe that given Mediawiki's reach, and its interest in both being of service to its users and being a neutral party, I believe Mediawiki in particular would be most suited for trying out this functionality. Use of @uris (where priority is given to @href) might be usable within some form of markup to indicate that a link should try the given protocol first (e.g., an XMPP link when the subject was information about a chatting forum). But of even greater interest to Mediawiki might be @alternateURIs where you could link to say your own page about an ISBN, but allow this attribute to be added to cue browsers (or for now, at least users of the Open URIs Firefox extension) to be able to right-click to try out their own registered handler for ISBNs. Do you also see the potential for Mediawiki here? You already handle ISBNs in a similar way, but this does requires extra steps (and bandwidth) and doesn't offer the complete control that client-side flexibility can offer. I know this is still non-standard, but there is a chicken-and-egg scenario here in that HTML5 doesn't seem willing to implement given other priorities without some experience and indication of wider interest. Would you be interested to support this? It should not disrupt anything for your current users. [Bug 24222] Implement @uris and @alternateURIs
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24222 --- Comment #1 from Brett Zamir bret...@yahoo.com 2010-07-01 23:04:44 UTC --- Just to add another specific use case besides ISBNs. If a URN were to come into effect for say verses of the Bible, you could make these neutral links which could be interpreted by browsers (though perhaps defaulting (if not preferring) say a WikiSource copy). With wider, but neutral linking, people could also confirm authenticity more readily and improve the experience for users, without forcing them to give priority to a specific site over others (except perhaps as a convenient default if none already existed at a Wikimedia site). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
