So what *is* the correct component? Moving to and from Site requests and
Extension setup isn't helping anyone but the mail server...

Extension setup: New extensions to get installed or enabled. Just like 'Site
request' but more specific.

Site requests: Requests for config changes for the sites hosted by the
Wikimedia Foundation.

Setting back to Extension setup. Removed keyword need-review because that
is being done in bug 15308.

When generating a PDF of the article
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equivalent_isotropically_radiated_power I get a
corrupt (I suspect) PDF-file. This file then makes Adobe Acrobat Reader crash
when opening the file. I think the problem is with the exported PDF, but it
might also be a bug in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

I'm running Windows XP, and Acrobat Reader 9.4.2.220.

[Bug 27915] My watchlist Mark as read

 (In reply to comment #12)
oh, darn. so. if the little checkmark boxes are relatively easy to encode,
but the code to make the selections drop off the list is a real pain, then
  it
would certainly help to at least have those little boxes to check off when
we've read an item. That would give us an at-a-glance aid to see where
  we've
been and don't have to go again, isn't that so?
Making a checkmark box and making things drop off the list (esp for watchlists
which are customized per user) are about the same difficulty
The code which keeps track of what you've already looked at hasn't been
 touched
in a while, and is a little bit scary...

Fear is not an option. grin

I recreated scenario (ii) on my testwiki, but the page correctly shows the
current file version, so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

 Looking at
 http://pl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Szablon:Wojew%C3%B3dztwo_kujawsko-pomorskieaction=history
it looks like Plik:POL województwo kujawsko-pomorskie COA.svg was used
 before
it was even created. Is this correct?

* It looks exactly like you describe: the file creation date is Jan 22 2011 but
template edition which uses this filename is from Jan 27 201. I can't explain
this. Whether there were once a file with this name on Commons (deleted and
re-created) or there is a bug in article history or it is a consequence of a
trick with nested templates, I cannot tell. I may ask someone on Commons to
check it up.

pt-BR bug

Here are the steps to reproduce the bug:
1) Log in an account having 'pt-br' as user lang on pt.wikipedia.org (or just
add uselang=pt-br to the url of the 3rd step). I did this using Mozilla/5.0
(X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.16pre) Gecko/20110310 Ubuntu/10.10
(maverick) Namoroka/3.6.16pre.
2) Go to an article of English Wikipedia. I went to Test.
3) Click in the bookmarklet and In the next screen, select Português in the
list, and type some title for the new article. I typed TestPagePt.

The script will open the URL above. After the page is loaded:
4) Click again in the bookmarklet[1] and the script will look for something
from 'pt-br.wikipedia.org'. See the screenshot.

PS: Nothing else happens after this (probably because there is nothing on
pt-br.wikipedia...) and there is no console errors.

i checked the details shared above and was able to recreate the issue.
after doing some debugging, i saw that if the userlang URL parameter is
available then wikipedia updates the wgUserLanguage parameter as the userlang
URL parameter.
since we are using wgUserLanguage parameter to determine to which wikipedia api
to call.
hence the script is making calls to pt-br.wikipedia.org api and failing.
we will work on this.

Further research shows: Disabling the Extension:IndexFunction in
Localsettings.php
makes both problems go away.

The order of inclusion of the extensions IndexFunction, and Babel, does not
make any visible difference.

I did not try each combination, but selectively dis- or reenabling several
other extensions, or groups of extensions, does not reveal anything new.

Besides {{#babel:ku-Arab-5}} any other level indicator {{#babel:ku-Arab-*}}
produces the same error messages.
I have also tried various other similar and dissimilar values but ku-Arab-* and
found nothing wrong with them.

I didn't see anything in the deletion/move logs though.

In fact, the file File:POL województwo kujawsko-pomorskie COA.svg has been
replaced on Jan 22 2011 (previous version moved to another name, new version
uploaded), so creation date is correctly _after_ its first usage. But there
_was_ a file with this name all the time, only with different content.

is empty though.

Anyway, if image is moved from title X to Y and a new one uploaded over X,
stable versions of pages using X will look for the version of the file named X
with the proper timestamp. This will fail, since that version is now under
title Y. As long as the page using X shows up as having pending file changes
(it will after r82917), this is more tolerable.

FlaggedRevs does store the sha1 of the proper version of files that it want's
to use. This means that it could fetch the files it wants by (sha1,timestamp),
which, in this case, would get around this problem (since it isn't using the
name).

I checked php.ini on our wiki server and output_handler=ob_gzhandler isn't set.

I reported this problem on apache bugzilla
(https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=50935) and the ticket was
closed as invalid, stating. There are known mod_deflate issues in 2.2.3 which
match the described symptoms. The maintainer did not reference any tickets
that described these known mod_deflate issues, so it is hard to say whether
this is a legitimate comment or a smoke screen. I have asked for a
clarification.

I will deactivate mod_deflate and see if that fixes the problem. However, we
have other applications running on our wiki server machine that use apache
(e.g., WordPress and Subversion), so a global solution involving mod_deflate
activation may not be desirable.

I also have created a coding workaround for ConfirmAccount that uses a global
to turn off compression when sending CVs. I will open a ticket and supply the
patch as an enhancement request for ConfirmAccount if deactivating mod_deflate
doesn't solve the problem.

After talking to Brion, and getting a stroke of inspiration, we determined the
issue is with caching. If XCache or CACHE_ACCEL is set, the cache may not
clear properly, keeping old permissions even through log out/log in. Changing
the cache type to CACHE_NONE has solved the problem.

Actually, this is incorrect. We only run the wiki software on our wiki server

may run other apache based applications on their wiki servers or may not have

Suggesting to split this to two different bugs since interwiki and category

Hence solution for separated interwiki is simple and easily doable with current

[Bug 28097] New: Cannot login when database is on a different server than the webserver

2011-03-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon

   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.16.2
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: major
  Priority: Normal
 Component: User login
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: etiennefal...@gmail.com

Hi all,

I've ran into a weird trouble and I need a hand.

We have two webservers that provided redundancy.
The web sites are simply copy/pasted from the primary to the backup server.
The load balancing is all done on the network side.
Hence, we have to have the same web sites on both servers, otherwise the page
won't show half the time the user browse to it.
Same with the wiki page.
So, I created the wiki page on the backup server, and linked it to the database
on the primary. (i know... not totally redundant, but if we lose the master,
the wikipage is the last of our trouble)
Once I granted database acces to the backup server, it worked like a charm.
I can browse the entire wiki site without a glitch.

Then I tried to login a local user. I get this error:
Loggin error
You have not specified a valid user name.

It does work when you browse the primary, but not on the backup.
the users are stored in the database, and since all the rest of the site is
also pulled from the database I can't see why it's not working.

Here's our configuration:
Windows server 2008 R2
IIS7
PHP 5.3.5
MediaWiki 1.16.2
MySQL 5.1.53

It might have something to do with the the IIS authentication... but honestly I
have no clue.
I have no windows events or php_errors relative to that issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Etienne

Ok, so the changes were in /trunk for a long time, not the deployment branch
for mw1.7, so they weren't actually getting pushed up.

However, now its in the deployment branch and synced.

Client-cache is the main issue. Any existing Non-Mobile android users will have
an old
version and might still redirect. However, after a cache clearing, they should
be fine.

Ignore empty Content-Encoding in mod_deflate

I checked php.ini on our wiki server and output_handler=ob_gzhandler isn't
 set.

Maybe it is set in LocalSettings? Some old LocalSettings may enable it.

I reported this problem on apache bugzilla
 (https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=50935) and the ticket was
closed as invalid, stating. There are known mod_deflate issues in 2.2.3 which
match the described symptoms. The maintainer did not reference any tickets
that described these known mod_deflate issues, so it is hard to say whether
this is a legitimate comment or a smoke screen. I have asked for a
 clarification.

It is reproduceable in 2.2.17, and the fix is as simple as checking at line 565
if the field is empty. I'm attaching a patch for that. It's not clear if it
should be done, given that the input is not rfc conformant, either.

I also have created a coding workaround for ConfirmAccount that uses a global
to turn off compression when sending CVs. I will open a ticket and supply the
patch as an enhancement request for ConfirmAccount if deactivating mod_deflate
 doesn't solve the problem.

You can also backport r84060.

[Bug 27470] Upload blacklist for target names not being applied ?

--- Comment #8 from Reedy s...@reedyboy.net 2011-03-17 22:16:43 UTC ---
No idea about how it's supposed to work

$wgHooks['EditFilter'][] = 'TitleBlacklistHooks::validateBlacklist';

It would seem, that creating a file page doesn't hit this hook call, at all.

Blocking redirects to non existent blacklisted titles seems to work fine, as
does The title Meh on wheels has been banned from creation. It matches the
following blacklist entry: .*? on wheels

Just no hits for image uploads for whatever reason..

Almost seems like we're barking up the wrong tree...

[Bug 28099] New: Add toJSON javascript module in core

2011-03-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28099

Summary: Add toJSON javascript module in core
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.18-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Javascript
AssignedTo: krinklem...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: krinklem...@gmail.com
CC: d...@ucsc.edu, tpars...@wikimedia.org

There are several implementations out there.

The most popular one (recommended by John Resig from jQuery and promoted on
http://www.json.org/ ) is D. Crockgord's implementation:
https://github.com/douglascrockford/JSON-js
The main script is at [1].

Thanks to janpaul123 for the idea to add this to core. This will make it very
easy to send a nested object of information to core and also maintain types
(ie. boolean and numbers). Both of which are hard when posting them directly as
parameters in the request.

It should be defined as extending the jQuery root object (not a prototype) as
$.toJSON

[Bug 28100] New: Ogg header packets spanning multiple pages

2011-03-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28100

Summary: Ogg header packets spanning multiple pages
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: OggHandler
AssignedTo: tstarl...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: tstarl...@wikimedia.org

The Vorbis specification explicitly allows for the comment header packet to
span multiple pages in the underlying bitstream. File_Ogg doesn't support this:
it assumes that the whole packet will be contiguous on disk, and doesn't allow
for page headers to be interspersed.

This was reported on IRC when a user tried to upload an Ogg file with a
COVERART comment, which contained a JPEG image encoded with base-64.

Since turning off mod_deflate is a workaround, I have discarded the patch.
Backporting r84060 seems the best way forward.
