[Bug 28479] New: Create patroller group on Polish Wikiquote

Hi,
currently only sysops at the Polish Wikiquote have the ability to mark edits as
patrolled.

There has been a consensus among editors to create the 'patroller' user group
to give the rights to other users; sysops should be able to add and remove
users from this group
http://pl.wikiquote.org/wiki/Wikicytaty:Bar#Uprawnienia_patrollera_i_autopatrollera.

Furthermore, we would of course like the patrollers' edits to be marked as
autopatrolled.

Thank you!

[Bug 28480] New: Deprecate WebResponde::header() in favor of PHP's built-in function header()

2011-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28480

 Bug #: 28480
   Summary: Deprecate WebResponde::header() in favor of PHP's
built-in function header()
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.18-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: theevilipaddr...@hotmail.de
Classification: Unclassified

The method WebResponse::header() is a wrapper for PHP's built-in function
header() that sends HTTP headers. This then often leads to code like:

$wgRequest-response()-header('HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found');

which means a lot of work with (global) objects that could be done so much
easier with

header('HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found');

Not only does this save object calls and thus improves speed, it's also much
easier to read if you ask me. There are no features lost, as this is really
just a wrapper method.

[Bug 28482] New: Introduce group fuzzying or fuzzying classes

Sometimes, messages belong to each other and when one is being altered, related
ones should at least be checked. Also, it is usually desirable, to have either
all of a group translated together, or none at all, so as to avoid mixed
language sentence whith likely often broken grammar.

For example, there are several messages of the kind: Foo $1 bar. where $1 is
another message, or one of a choice of other messages, or a link, the anchor of
which is another message, or an anchor of a choice of other messages, etc.

We also have: Foo: [__input__] bar. where Foo: and bar. are two
separate messages. There are even quite more complex cases.

Since good wording, language style and grammatical constraints make
distribution of parts and pieces different between languages, we need to
reconsider and reevaluate all messages when one has been altered.

Of course, when message documentation is good, correct, and up to date,
fuzzying one message (and reading the message documentation!) may make
translators aware of related messages. This is often not the case, however.
Specifically pieces related to elsewhere, or inserted elsewhere, are often hard
or impossible to detect,

Thus it may be advisable to create message groups, and fuzzy all members of
them, when one is fuzzied. A helpful effect of those groups would be that on
message editing pages, these related message could automacically all be shown.
This would make it easy for translators to maintain an overwiev of the messages
to be treated together.

In theory, a template call listing the related messages as parameters in the
message documentation could do almost the same, except that automated group
fuzzying cannot be had by a template reference alone.

I'm not sure it's still technically CDATA, but there are values in the page
source that JavaScript scripts can easily look up (e.g., wgPageName and
wgCanonicalNamespace). It would be helpful to be able to easily look up a
user's edit count using a wgEditCount variable. This would help with targeting
scripts to more experienced or inexperienced users, for example, without
needing a separate API call.

I'm not sure what the behavior should be for logged out users. I think
wgEditCount = 0 makes the most sense, though maybe there are better
alternatives.

[Bug 27193] Allow namespace filter for list=deletedrevsdruser

2011-04-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27193

--- Comment #1 from Reedy s...@reedyboy.net 2011-04-10 22:27:11 UTC ---
This seems to be disabled purposely due to the way that the sorts and such are
added on by the API, a sane query can be built (ie no filesort)

It's providing a lot more functionality than DeletedContributions does to begin
with

We probably need to create a mode 4

CREATE INDEX /*i*/name_title_timestamp ON /*_*/archive
(ar_namespace,ar_title,ar_timestamp);
CREATE INDEX /*i*/ar_usertext_timestamp ON /*_*/archive
(ar_user_text,ar_timestamp);
CREATE INDEX /*i*/ar_revid ON /*_*/archive (ar_rev_id);

  1) List deleted revisions for the given title(s), sorted by timestamp
  2) List deleted contributions for the given user, sorted by timestamp (no
titles specified)
  3) List all deleted revisions in the given namespace, sorted by title and
timestamp (no titles specified, druser not set)

List deleted contributions for the given user, in the given namespace, sorted
by timestamp

SELECT /* IndexPager::reallyDoQuery (DeletedContribsPager) Reedy */
ar_rev_id,ar_namespace,ar_title,ar_timestamp,ar_comment,ar_minor_edit,ar_user,ar_user_text,ar_deleted
 FROM `mw_archive` FORCE INDEX (usertext_timestamp) WHERE ar_user_text =
'Reedy' AND ar_namespace = '0' AND ((ar_deleted  12) != 12)  ORDER BY
ar_timestamp DESC LIMIT 51

Starting to do this, then hit a snag. By default NS is set to 0... So we can't
just do a NS/User filter, and know whether we want to hit 2 or 4..

So people could then unknowingly be filtering by NS 0, which they may or may
not want...

 Bug #: 28485
   Summary: Block::purgeExpired. Database returned error 1205:
Lock wait timeout exceeded;
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.17
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Blocking
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: s...@reedyboy.net
CC: domas.mitu...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified

Block::purgeExpired. Database returned error 1205: Lock wait timeout
exceeded; try restarting transaction

Getting more common

Needs dealing with.

domas reedy: open another connection with a separate transaction for the
actual purge DELETE statement
domas reedy: you have to create new LoadBalancer object for that I hear
domas Tim once showed me how, was something really simple
domas but this is a good thing to do both for ipblocks purges and
recentchanges ones

Well the queries aren't exactly great in some cases - aka

You should file it upstream if it can't be disabled. MediaWiki has its own
logging system for query errors we actually care about, we don't need HipHop's.

No, wfGetLB() does not create a new load balancer, it gets a cached one. You
want:

$lb = wfGetLBFactory()-newMainLB();
$db = $lb-getConnection( DB_MASTER );
...
$lb-commitMasterChanges();
$lb-closeAll();

Update to this, if it's implemented:

A lot of websites have live chat support, click here to chat to a customer
service agent.

A software method supporting a *click to get help from an experienced editor*
button, along with the reverse (An experienced editor would like to talk to
you, click to accept), would probably allow us to refine newcomer support and
could work wonders in terms of support, wiki-knowhow, and perceived
friendliness.

 Hello, I've asked the users of ka wiki. We consider all recommendations by
 Aaron Schulz correct. We consider, that FlagGiver group is necessary no more.
 So please, maybe it is possible to enable it sooner?

I forgot to mention dewiki has Categories description pages reviewable too.
Should that be the case here?

Also, I assume you don't want $wgFlaggedRevsAutopromote or
$wgFlaggedRevsAutoconfirm promotion of users into FlaggedRevs groups. The wiki
is a bit too small for those things, unlike dewiki.
