[Bug 28731] New: mw.FlickrChecker.js
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28731 Bug #: 28731 Summary: mw.FlickrChecker.js Product: MediaWiki extensions Version: any Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Unprioritized Component: UploadWizard AssignedTo: ne...@wikimedia.org ReportedBy: lupo.bugzi...@gmail.com CC: asha...@wikimedia.org, rkald...@wikimedia.org Classification: Unclassified 1. FlickrChecker should not expose the Flickr API key in the source. 2. It should also be able to handle static.flickr.com URLs. 3. I didn't check when exactly this is called. But note that if you extract the id from the URL, you may get back license information even for malformed URLs. Example: consider the URl http://www.flickr.com/photos/27302612@N03/3087959051 pointing to Marc Benton's CC-BY-NC-SA photo of Randy Orton. Now consider that the user just typed http://www.flickr.com/photos/27302612@N03/30879590, leaving off the last two digits. The URL as a whole is invalid, but unfortunately, 30879590 is also a valid Flickr photo ID, but for a completely different photo by a different user, namely Ben Sutherland's CC-BY photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bensutherland/30879590/ 4. If you're already getting the license from Flickr, you could also automatically get the author, description, geolocation, and the file at the largest available resolution. 5. If you want, I could provide the Flinfo PHP sources, where we've already dealt with all that stuff. (And which also can deal with ipernity and panoramio). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 14636] Blocking/Permissions Rewrite
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14636 John Mark Vandenberg jay...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||jay...@gmail.com --- Comment #4 from John Mark Vandenberg jay...@gmail.com 2011-04-28 12:20:24 UTC --- Bringing the current systems closer together would be great. There are not many changes needed to implement the current block options as rights functionality. One step is to * add a 'can edit own user talk' permission * remove/deprecate $wgBlockAllowsUTEdit Then the existing system can be replicated with an autopromote group 'blocked' that uses APCOND_BLOCKED (r52083), and revokes 'edit' and grants 'editowntalk' for wikis with $wgBlockAllowsUTEdit. That would mean the three rights currently rights under admin control ('createaccount', 'sendemail', 'editowntalk') are proper permissions and the storage details can be abstracted under the permissions API, which may continue to access them from ipblocks table, or uses a new user_rights_override table which would require the block logic is updated as well. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 25305] Make an ultra-autoblock option
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25305 John Mark Vandenberg jay...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||jay...@gmail.com --- Comment #7 from John Mark Vandenberg jay...@gmail.com 2011-04-28 13:05:31 UTC --- (In reply to comment #4) (In reply to comment #3) Checkusers can tell what accounts shared same IP address, but can't tell specific IP address they used. So we can't block IP address manually to stop creating more accounts. That's why this function is suggested. Checkusers can tell/block specific IP addresses. On English Wikipedia we reduce the ability for the public to determine that user:A=IP:123 from the logs by different sysops performing the block, however as the disruption increases, our need to protect their privacy decreases: the disruptor is choosing to continue. Or Korean Wikipedia can increase the setting of $wgAutoblockExpiry by consensus decision by the community. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgAutoblockExpiry I think it is also possible to create a group for 'ultra-auto-blocked' accounts, and have a higher $wgAutoblockExpiry value for these accounts. If that is possible, this bug can be closed until Korean Wikipedia has consensus to implement it. However I think that it will not be effective, because any public record that an account is ultra-auto-blocked will mean that the disruptive person will use a different strategy. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. My code and results are here: http://aryeh.name/gitweb.cgi?p=hpc-final;a=tree The proposal and writeup of results are here: http://aryeh.name/gitweb.cgi?p=hpc-final;a=blob_plain;f=proposal.pdf;hb=HEAD http://aryeh.name/gitweb.cgi?p=hpc-final;a=blob_plain;f=writeup.pdf;hb=HEAD Among other things, I found that a PBKDF-style iteration scheme was about six times slower in PHP than in C, not orders of magnitude. With 32k iterations of SHA1, PHP took around 50-100 ms, while C (using OpenSSL's SHA1 implementation) took around 8 ms, or about 120 passwords/second. On a GPU, I got about 10,000 passwords a second. (With straight uniterated SHA1, I got 1.8 million passwords/second on a CPU, and 220 million on a GPU. I didn't salt, but salting would make no difference to the performance, since it only affects initialization.) The str_repeat() idea sounds like it could make the PHP code closer to the C code. Did you time it? Just make sure the hash function you're using can't be easily optimized for the case where the same string is repeated many times, particularly in the case where the string happens to align on block boundaries. If you could reuse any computations, it would obviously defeat the point. I thought about this when working on my project. I had to write an OpenCL implementation of SHA1, so I'm somewhat familiar with how it works, and I don't see an obvious way to speed it up based on repetition in the input. But I haven't looked at Whirlpool. Unfortunately, hashes are usually not designed with slowness in mind. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16814 John Mark Vandenberg jay...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||jay...@gmail.com --- Comment #6 from John Mark Vandenberg jay...@gmail.com 2011-04-28 15:05:50 UTC --- (In reply to comment #1) (In reply to comment #0) On dewiki many administrators are requesting a change to the process of re-blocking users. It'd be useful to have a checkbox [ ] confirm re-block and therefor to require active confirmation when Re-blocking a user. Having a small message user is already blocked. Do you want to change the settings? and a different text on the submit button Re-block the user with these settings is not sufficient, as most administrators don't read the whole text when they block. Re-blocking without consensus or agreement of the blocking administrator is often regarded as rude on dewiki, therefor most administrators wish to avoid re-blocks by accident. Consensus on this bugreport on the Administrators'_noticeboard: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administratoren/Notizen#Verl.C3.A4ngerung.2FVerk.C3.BCrzung_von_Sperren_.232 This was the case until recently. There was a checkbox (unchecked by default, IIRC) which one had to check off to change block settings. I don't know what the problem was with that - it seemed perfectly sensible to me that 1) You would require active confirmation for something like that and 2) You would use a checkbox in exactly that manner to do it So, probably it is a simple revert of whatever commit changed that. r43870? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. These seemed to be conflicting in some cases, but fixing them doesn't seem to have removed all the conflict markers, and I noticed on clearing up later commits they're still there. [Bug 28732] XiphQT does not support non-square pixel aspect ratios
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28732 --- Comment #1 from Brion Vibber br...@wikimedia.org 2011-04-28 16:40:04 UTC --- Testing real quick on Mac OS X 10.6.7 with XiphQT 0.1.9 just installed (the latest release shown, from June '09). Forcing the QuickTime viewer in Safari seems to show the video at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Aljazeeraasset-GAZAATTACKD29128D540.ogv in the correct aspect ratio (16:9). Running it through 'Native browser support' (video tag) shows it incorrectly at 720x576 -- this will be using the same Quicktime components for decoding, but through a different interface at the browser level. Since 'native' support is the default, that seems to be what's coming up wrong... but it may be a bug in Safari's video implementation rather than the XiphQT stuff itself judging by the Quicktime plugin sizing it correctly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. Detecting disambiguation pages is especially computationally difficult on English wikipedia as we have many templates on [[MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage]]. Examples include [[Special:AbuseFilter/98]], [[Special:AbuseFilter/394]] [[Special:AbuseFilter/402]] page_is_redirect is already computed. Disambiguations are easier for the backend to compute. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15057 --- Comment #7 from Nicholas Longo nmich...@gmail.com 2011-04-28 17:44:47 UTC --- I just checked and that this problem still occurs on en.wikibooks, and so almost certainly still occurs for all of the wikimedia wiki's. On the other hand it cannot be reproduced on a clean install of mediawiki, and it doesn't seem to particularly be a texvc issue. I suspect to cure this the wikimedia folks need to manually clean out some of the older png's that texvc created, so the new versions can recreate them correctly.
