The log is a continuous writen database, so that does not handle restoring of files. [Bug 29181] 480P transcode of 16:9 video actually sized to 640x360 in TimedMediaHandler
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29181 Derk-Jan Hartman hart...@videolan.org changed: What|Removed |Added CC||hart...@videolan.org --- Comment #5 from Derk-Jan Hartman hart...@videolan.org 2011-05-28 15:28:23 UTC --- 1088 is rather common, but wrong. All movies that produce 1088 SHOULD also have metadata that defines that their Display box should be 1920x1080 (cropped image of the recording basically). If they don't than issues such as you describe are simply expected behavior. So what youtube does with some uncommon source material: Youtube with 2.39:1 1920x800 source material http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O574YXXSTb0 Their 1080p of this movie is: main debug: pic render sz 1920x800, of (0,0), vsz 1920x800, 4cc I420, sar 1:1, msk r0x0 g0x0 b0x0 main debug: pic in sz 1920x800, of (0,0), vsz 1920x800, 4cc I420, sar 1:1, msk r0x0 g0x0 b0x0 main debug: pic out sz 1920x800, of (0,0), vsz 1920x800, 4cc UYVY, sar 1:1, msk r0x0 g0x0 b0x0 It is rendered boxed in a 16:9 frame HD 1080p (16:9)== 1920x1080 HD 1080p (2.39:1) == 1920x800 (actual factor is 2.40:1, due to rounding) So this was kept 'as is' Youtube with 1440x608, 2.35:1 source material http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYX4aXyqx4g This qualifies as a weird format. actual 2.35 would have been 612 pixels high, so i'm guessing this was cropped down to 608 in order to be 16 pixel compatible Their 720p of this movie is: main debug: pic render sz 1280x540, of (0,0), vsz 1280x540, 4cc I420, sar 1:1, msk r0x0 g0x0 b0x0 main debug: pic in sz 1280x540, of (0,0), vsz 1280x540, 4cc I420, sar 1:1, msk r0x0 g0x0 b0x0 main debug: pic out sz 1280x540, of (0,0), vsz 1280x540, 4cc UYVY, sar 1:1, msk r0x0 g0x0 b0x0 It is rendered as boxed in a 16:9 frame. HD (720p) == 1280x720 actual DAR of produced image is 2.37:1 But clearly, 720p is not always 720 lines. It is always 1280 columns, with the DAR of the source video. So their conversion targets are the bounding boxes of 16:9 1080p/720p/480p/360p/240p video frame sizes, keeping the source display aspect ratio intact. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 29181] 480P transcode of 16:9 video actually sized to 640x360 in TimedMediaHandler
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29181 --- Comment #6 from Derk-Jan Hartman hart...@videolan.org 2011-05-28 15:55:59 UTC --- Youtube has some nice feature btw that we can consider: For instance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-XViSEyYHA This is a 4:3 640x480 source video. When you look at the Youtube conversions with VLC you will see that the display aspect ratio (or actually the Pixel aspect ratio) is incorrect. In the video options of Youtube, you can correct this problem by setting the option stretch to 16:9. Now the incorrect PAR is corrected with a compensated DAR in the video player. The visitors to the Youtube page never realize that the video source is not really correct. Same for a zoom option. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkEaYCkpEB8 Source (and converted) material actually contain black letterboxing. The uploader has set the zoom option to 16:9 and you never notice the problem in the Youtube video player. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21919 --- Comment #74 from Neil Kandalgaonkar ne...@wikimedia.org 2011-05-28 17:01:16 UTC --- I don't know anything special about the Google News Sitemap format. I was looking into the Image extensions for Commons. Then I got interested in the question of why we don't do sitemaps generally. I've collected some info about that which I can share here, but I think that WikiNews is thinking somewhat differently about Sitemaps. It seems that you're really interested in getting recent items indexed fast, so GNSM works (as far as I can tell) more like an RSS feeder -- there's a single URL you hit to get the latest stuff, and if you miss an hour or two, too bad. But for Wikipedia and Commons, we want the entire collection indexed, and hopefully by more than just Google, and with richer metadata. Andrew Poth jap...@ieee.org 2011-05-28 19:37:24 UTC --- This isn't just a Commons problem. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:You_light_up_my_life_-_7_inch.jpg. I uploaded the edited image three (3) times, with the newest thumb remaining the wrong version, as described by Erwin Dokter, above. I thought I was inadvertently uploading the unedited file, until I finally figured out that Wikipedia was screwed up. Since then, I've only uploaded modified images to Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons once, and waited to see if the corrections would eventually show up in the article. A recent image, http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SolderGun.jpg, took almost 48 hours to update the thumbnail on the image page and show the edited image in the Wikipedia article. Purging the thumbnail cache on Wikipedia/Wikimedia and clearing my browser cache has zero effect. Using a different browser has zero effect. The problem of thumbnails not being updated is entirely beyond the user's control. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 1450] short URLs (really short, almost tiny)
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1450 --- Comment #8 from Arjuna Rao Chavala arjunar...@googlemail.com 2011-05-29 04:10:39 UTC --- (In reply to comment #6) (In reply to comment #5) I think it need not be in US ASCII, as international domain names have been approved. Domain names are not the same as paths, they're unrelated. I think they are related. If not, I would like to understand why the international text part of the URL is represented in US ASCII. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. I'm pretty sure that has been deployed on some projects. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
