This isn't a half-baked alpha API, and neither is this a proprietary API...this is supposed to be FOSS. A public API isn't meant to be an exercise in reverse engineering... That at best, is slightly an overstatement. The API pro-rata to most of the project is well documented, both with the internal and the more external facing documented. Granted, it's not perfect, but what FOSS project is. When you don't pay people to write documentation, chances are, they won't. This seems very reverse to what most people have said, with it often being reasonably well congratulated of it being there. Even when I was using 3-4 years ago as just a consumer, I rarely had any difficulties, usually it was when using strange parameter combinations, but it was worked out. Similarly, if it is so abhorrent, why don't we have more complaints of things being bad? Usually people have nitpicks over little bits and pieces, but it's never OMG THE DOCUMENTATION IS SO BAD I CANT FUCKING USE THIS Unfortunately we are both not mind readers, and also mixed ability end user consumers. We can't work out what you think is wrong, so unless people tell us, it's a wild stab in the dark. And on that the only issues you seem to bring up, is 1 poorly documented parameter, and the fallback error which brings you to the help page in a lot of cases. Besides, Wikimedia IRC RC feed is a good option to display the import status when using the importupload option, which the Wikimedia Incubator uses most of. Http gives an error but on IRC it continues to report the importing status, even when the importer is carrying the bot flag. That way things will stay central and registration will be cached as well. Registering an actual module on the client side seems like a lot of work to implement and the ultimate goal (loading wiki pages through resourceloader) can be achieved much easier. By not letting users register modules on the client side and instead allowing them to load (a set of) pages directly, it will be easier for them as well. See also bug 25845. It would be better if the image is hosted on Commons. We did the same thing at nds.wp which currently hosts no images at all and has image uploads disabled. That's because we are a small project and have no special copyright expertise. The cleanest solution is to stick to truly free images and rely on Commons expertise. I planned to go the same way with nds.wikt, but as the project was fallen into inactivity anyway I never got around to actually request the shutoff of image uploads on nds.wikt. User:Zylbath who pulled the project out of inactivity recently did some new image uploads now, but it's still the plan to rely on Commons and I'm sure Zylbath will be fine with that too. Nor does it link styles to scripts (which is very important for extension modules, styles need to be applied first). The order in which modules are loaded in ResoureLoader is very predicatable. However the in order in which module requests complete or finish is unpredicatable. This isn't fixed in your script, nor do I think it should be fixed. The order doesn't matter in most cases. When it does, then a dependandy should be declared by the module-author (that way you don't have to load them in the correct order yourself). For example: Modules: * mw.special.foo * mw.ext.bar * mw.gadget.johnScript * mw.gadget.alexScript Suppose all of them are loaded, the http requests are going in an unknown order. If Alex is assuming (because he knows) that his script was added to the queue after John's script (and alexScript.js contains calls to functions from johnScript.js), then he may very well have a problem. Because, like you said, the order is unpredictable, and if alexScript.js would finish loading first (becuase it's small, whatever), it would fail in errors screaming alexScript.functionname undefined. Aside from that, John may at any point decide to add his script to the queue in a different way or at a different time. Resulting in Alex script breaking as well. The solution is ResourceLoader dependancies. With this system ResourceLoader will load all scripts from the server and these requests may run in parallel and finish in an uncontrolled order, it simply loads them as fast as possible and ignores the order (in many cases it'll roughly be the original order but not by definition so). The finish of a resourcerloader request is not per definition the start of the execution (which is contrary to a normal load with a script-tag, in which case the end of the request is instantly the start of the execution of the javascript code). The power is in the execution. Because of the system around the requests, ResourceLoader will capture the module's code and execute them in such an order that dependancies are handled well, styles are applied first, interface/localized messages are available and more. This framework is fairly lightweight and hardly slows down the page. The slow-down is either because the server is slow, or because the script is big, or maybe it appears to be slow because it's loaded at bottom of the page (in which the load itself may be fast but starts later than you would hope). The ultimate end of the loading procedure of resourcerloader, if I remember correctly, may very well be after the document ready event. This event is not postponed untill all bottom load scripts are finished (or atleast shouldn't be, if it is, please open a new bug report). If a piece of javascript needs to manipulate the page before it's shown to the user, but can't be executed in the top (because the page doesn't exist yet then), then you should register your module with position = top, and wrap your script in jQuery(document).ready( function ); That way it'll be loaded on top but executed as soon as the document object model is ready. That's right. If not already, a way to set the default column for sorting
inside the wikitext when creating the {| class='wikitable sortable' ...
should be simple.
I hadn't thought of it that way, if that's acceptable to TranslateWiki and
suffices in Mark's request we can do that.
But if it's not something we'd want for all viewers of the /stats pages by
default, then, imho, we only have two options:
1) Create some way, specifically on translatewiki.net, to process url
parameters and manipulate a sorting-command to the table. This code could be
places in MediaWiki:Common.js and checking the namespace and subpagename.
2) A much cleaner, but also more complex (imo overkill if this is the only
needed advantage), implement this /stats functionality as a SpecialPage in
the Translate-extension. Since it would output it's stuff from PHP it could use
TablePager (or some other method), and could easily use url-parameters to
control the initial sorting in the HTML output (this is supported by default in
TablePager).
or, 3) Not exactly as request but might forfill the need, implement a way to
tell the tablesorter javascript which column the default sort should be (ie. {|
!class=defaultsorted|myheading |} ).
This is the easiest to implement, but doesn't allow you to choose it (it would
be hardcoded in the wikitext which column the default is), and would affect all
viewers of the page.
Except for 2), I can implement without too much work. Let me know (or assign it
to me), after a decision has been made :-)

In my opinion, the normal logic of html forms is that the field, if filled, is
actually submitted, and the button ADD adds another other line/field.

I agree on this. The first time I encountered this click {add} to save form
value and reset input field system was on Commons with the HotCat gadget, I
didn't like it there but it's something you can get used to. However during
uploads I dont think there should be any component that requires getting used
to.

In ApiQueryArticlceFeedback, passing a page ID for which article feedback is
not enabled produces an error.

This is the problem with having what amounts to two separate projects that were forked from 1.15alpha. no way of guaranteeing fixes from one will ever show up in the other.
