All that is defined by these standards is a possible way of writing down date information. ISO for example doesn't tell the software anything about the calendar in use or even that it's a date at all, even if that's a logical thing for human eyes. Microformats like hCalendar are very limited in it's possibilities and use html. The thing about the Open Date Standard is, that it will be able to describe any calender with microseconds being the only universal unit. If there is a calender out there that doesn't have days, or it's days are of different length (imagine a calendar for Mars with a 25 hour day), than it still wouldn't be a problem. The Open Date Standard doesn't only define how to write down a date and tell the software which kind of calendar to use, the most important thing about it will be the ability to define calendars in xml and the posibility to convert a date from one calendar to another, simply by reading in the xml definition of the two calendars. So, as a user, you don't have to think about different calendars any more. Even as a programmer of a Open Date Standard library you don't have to think about the definitions. As long as you implement the standard correctly, the XML definition of calendars will cover the complex part of calendar convertion, date displaying and date reading. Local wikis are refusing to delete images because the moves haven't been reviewed, if they would delete them (clean up), it is likely a Commons sysop may have to request temporary undeletion in order to review. This is taking hours/days/weeks for a single images, simply unworkable. with over 6 years of backlog and 3 years of waiting for an implementation I think it's time we get this under serious consideration and write out a road map of what needs to be done. An estimation at the very least because the work-arounds are killing at the very least and no where even near motivating or collaborative. Needed end-result: * There is a global user group which is allowed to view deleted files and their file-page history on all wmf-wikis. First you can't rely on the line-height being 17px, since it's actually 1.5em. Secondly, rounding the margin gives you different div heights for even and odd pixel thumbnails. The userCan hook already gets passed a title. One could just simply make an extension using that hook. A really hacky implementation could be done in about ten minutes. (userCan hook that just checks local group membership at commons [hey we already do cross-db access for global usage], and lets people read if they are a sysop over there). The value is overridden by the values in DefaultSettings.php. When removing an option from DefaultSettings, it uses the value again from MessagesXx.php This bug is present for quite some time, since the defaultUserOptionOverrides are almost only used for quickbar (used by some legacy skins) by RTL languages, which is a small userbase so it didn't get noticed.
