During or after the events the new editors would have tried to edit and someone of them has tried to vandalize without logging in, for which the IP address (115.252.32.0/20) has been blocked and all of them are unable to edit now. Please release the IP address in a priority basis. Please see the attached screenshot of the IP block. Working on this now.
Short time improvements:
- Re-using the same $collapsible jQuery object instead of re-creation of
$(this)
- Use .data instead of dom manipulation (className property)
- Use $.nodeName( HTMLElement, tag ) to detect something is an a,
instead of using creating a jQuery object and calling is.('a'), which goes
through a lot of selector stuff.
- Fix bug where it says it does instantHide but actually still triggers the
event that causes initial animations.

You can escape dots in ID selectors. In CSS:
#mediaWiki\.loader { color: red; }
in jQuery:
$( '#mediaWiki\\.loader ); // double \ needed to produce one \ in the string
I agree it is indeed not impossible. But looking at the wider picture:
MediaWIki sanitizes the textual content of the heading and creates an ID that
doesn't contain illegal characters. But since it is somewhat sanitized already
(just like we do for class names, though we do a better job there) I think it
is perfectly reasonable to make this sanitize dots and other charaters as well.
It doesn't have to be impossible, but making it convenient and optimized for
usage in CSS is just as important. Since the only reason we output them is for
usage in CSS (and by JavaScript, and for anchor-jumping), it makes perfect
sense to optimize for that usage and not require escaping in 2/3 use cases.

Also those animations would never slow down the page because they are one single animation. The problems referred to in this page are mostly about jquery.makeCollapsible (which the Vector skin itself doesn't use, because there's built-in jQuery methods for what Vector does), and all are about multi-animation sequences. e.g. when jquery.makeCollapsible initializes on a page with many collapsible tables it slows down exponentially. That is bug in jquery.makeCollapsible because during initialization it shouldn't animate, only when a user clicks a button, and when a user does it is always for 1 single animation, which is marginal and hasn't had any complaints. So the solution is to fix jquery.makeCollapsible because eventhough it may not 20 seconds on a modern computer, it still freezes the browser for like 1 or 2 seconds which is unacceptable. That bug is tracked under bug 34876 and a fix is already on its way. If there are other modules that suffer from this bug (so far only makeCollapsible was mentioned), please file new bugs for those. They can be fixed very simple in the same way: by fixing the script to not request an untracked number of animations unconditionally at the same time. Because though that is most visible on a slow computer, it is never acceptable and thus should be fixed for everyone. Animations when triggered on user action and when appropiate for the scenario are fine and (at least so far) have never been a source of actual complaints. So, taking all into account. string.find function only return a number instead of an array.
Some examples:
string.find(d'alfdf, (al)) return 3 instead of {3, 4, al}
= string.find(d'alfdf, ^([a-d'])) return 1 instead of {1, 1, d}
Lua manual say :
string.find (s, pattern [, init [, plain]])
Looks for the first match of pattern in the string s. If it finds a match, then
find returns the indices of s where this occurrence starts and ends; otherwise,
it returns nil. [...]
If the pattern has captures, then in a successful match the captured values are
also returned, after the two indices.
