It breaks out of the expected bounds of the template system and doesn't seem to have a balance in favour of the idea. Most of the header / footer template use cases I see IMHO should in fact be handled using a new type of extension to add things, like nav to the header and footer. In the current example given we don't even need a special extension. Practically all of the information being inserted into said template is actually within the title and follows a near strict pattern. In other words a simple basic header and footer powered by lua taking no parameters could handle their entire use case. This is supposed to section up the UI so that a user at a screen reader, etc... will have text associated with each area of the UI permitting them to understand what each part is a part of. However our footer does not have one of these. As a result in our footer blending in and conceptually being treated as a part of the last portlet in the sidebar. Sometimes something like Help, others Toolbox, and commonly on en.wp Languages. However we use display: none; on these headers. Modern screen readers use standard css-capable web browsers. This means that use of display: none; hides content from the very users who are supposed to be seeing them. Files uploaded to WAVE cannot be larger than 450 kilobytes.
Looks like it's inconsistently working and not working.

Maybe we should use visibility: hidden instead?
visibility: hidden; is supposed to have the same effect on screen readers as
display: none; does.
There are a few notable techniques for hiding things visually while leaving
them in the page for screen readers.

It could be argued that the function EntityHandler::getFromTerm should be called EntityHandler::getMatchingTerms if the terms are returned or EntityHandler::getMatchingEntities if the entities themself are returned or EntityHandler::getMatchingIds if the ids are returned. Depending on how the function is named it should return either ids or the entities or tuples of ids, label with language, description with language, alias with language, and score. Perhaps the function(s) should be made so it returns the data with varying granularity. Ie. all three functions is made and the later builds on the former. I found an additional problem: due to our 2-tier Varnish setup (frontend/backend instances), Varnish was sending some headers in duplicate as it's not properly filtering. This included the Content-Length header, Accept-Ranges, Age and Via. I first suspected the Content-Length header being the problem, and fixed this problem in Varnish, only happening while streaming: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/29565/ But this didn't fix the issue with Firefox. I've now added some hacky VCL code to remove the duplicate Accept-Ranges header, and this turned out to be the culprit. It's fixed by this workaround for now, but the proper fix would be to make Varnish filter headers appropriately. The Mozilla documentation page explains the header, its values and the circumstances around using it quite well, so I won't repeat it here. Swift supports setting arbitrary headers, so we can set that on such videos. We should do so for both new files and existing ones using a batch job.
