Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: ContentHandler AssignedTo: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: cuer...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- Seriously. It's been, like, a decade. How can Wikipedia still not be able to support the most popular form of lossless file, several years after knowing it's an issue. This is simply gross incompetence, that actively encourages people to use lossy file types that do work, instead of lossless ones that are archival quality. Commons has been actively harmed by inaction on this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

Exhibit 1 https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Gregory,_George_(1790-1853)_(DNB00) I am guessing that it is in #LST rather than something in [[mw:Extension:Proofread Page]]. It may be the latter! When it is set to sysop testing of permissions will sometimes fail because of failed assumptions. A typical run where this bug shows up is for group Wikibase and gives six failures in testCheckPermission and testUserCan. Other groups, or combinations of groups, will give other permission related errors. It is available a workaround in Change Iaa705f72: "Workaround for failing tests", but any tests that manipulates the $wgUser should save previous state and restore it on exit. The tests for EditEntity seems to do this right (saved in $userGroups) but EditContentTest and subclasses seems to fail on this. When the method testCheckPermission or testUserCan is called the permission checks are triggered, and then they will fail sometimes because the user is either a sysop or wbeditor and they have different rights. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 42523] New: Get rid of message "Wikimedia-copyrightwarning".
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42523 Web browser: --- Bug #: 42523 Summary: Get rid of message "Wikimedia-copyrightwarning". Product: Wikimedia Version: wmf-deployment Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: General/Unknown AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: krinklem...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- The default message message[1] should be good enough. Message "Wikimedia-copyrightwarning" is provided to the cluster through Extension:WikimediaMessages[3]. It is then (manually) applied to (some!) wikis by overriding the "MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning" page on the wiki to be just {{MediaWiki:Wikimedia-copyrightwarning}}. Aside from that being a horrible hack, hard to track (for users, developers as well as the legal department), that makes it currently impossible to use in javascript (since it would require parsing templates). Aside from that it appears to be redundant. If there is some legal ground that the default message in MediaWiki core does not legally suffice in obtaining permission from the user to irrevocably license it under said license, then I highly suggest the legal department considers the 1s of wikis in the world that are not run by the Wikimedia Foundation and instead focus on fixing that message so that everybody is safe. Either way I don't think there can be any justifiable reason for having a different message. So under that assumption forward I look for differences other than the license agreement. And what I found was "[.., and] you agree to the Terms of use". Looks like that doesn't belong in the copyright message and is already in the footer (or should be in the footer, as it isn't related to editing). If there is legal reasons to have to include it in the edit screen specifically, maybe we should include it in the copyright warning in core then, however I doubt that that it is legally required to refer to terms of usage from the edit page since they apply to the entire browsing experience and thusly are already referenced from the footer. [Bug 31595] CentralNotice banners should exist in their own namespace (stop using the MediaWiki namespace)
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31595 Matt Walker changed: What|Removed |Added CC||mwal...@wikimedia.org --- Comment #12 from Matt Walker 2012-11-29 00:29:29 UTC --- (In reply to comment #6) > Currently CN fetches message with wfMessage() which doesn't really go through > the fallback chain (like zh-cn -> zh-hans -> zh -> en) when getting a message > from database (instead it uses zh-cn -> en). Not that this really helps, but I have about five i18n patches for CentralNotice in a holding pattern until after the fundraiser. One of which addresses this exact issue. I looked at fixing the core i18n code and though doable it was a more significant investment of time than I wanted to expend at the time I wrote my patch. Seeing as I'm waiting till January to deploy this patch set anyways I can probably go and fix the bug in core. -- As to moving things to their own namespace. With the deployment of the CN i18n stuff we will in fact have our own namespace but it will be as a scratch space for the translate extension. Once it's been marked as translated/approved we move it into MW again. I kept it this way for backwards compatibility reasons (mostly that I didn't want to have to write code to look in multiple locations for the banner.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 42273] Activity feeds should not include non-course activity of course volunteers
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42273 --- Comment #2 from Sage Ross 2012-11-28 23:09:37 UTC --- That's not the way it is behaving right now (or was, before Special:MyCourses broke). In the beta test class [1], there are no enrolled students at this point, just an instructor and three online volunteers. The feed shows every edit made by those people in the target namespaces, which will completely dominate the feed even once students start editing, since those are the people who are super active all over the wiki. The feed should exclude edits from instructors and volunteers *except* in cases where the post is to an article associated with the class or the talk page of an enrolled student or fellow instructor/volunteer. If that's not feasible, showing *only* student edits is preferable to the current behavior. [Bug 42273] Activity feeds should not include non-course activity of course volunteers
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42273 --- Comment #1 from Jeroen De Dauw 2012-11-28 22:48:02 UTC --- Current behaviour: only edits to articles in one of ( NS_MAIN, NS_TALK, NS_USER, NS_USER_TALK ) by a user enrolled in a cause result in the edit will be added to the feed of this course. What I'm understanding from your suggestion: only posts by people that are not enrolled in any course to the user pages or user talk pages of the students of a course, or any of the articles they are working on as part of that course, will be added to the feed of this course. Not sure I'm understanding you correctly though. The current approach was suggested by Frank and seems to make more sense to me. Also not sure that what you are proposing will result in less edits being shown. Better > then to work on media query support for RL then. Nested @media rules aren't relevant here. I know CSS3 supports nested @media blocks, but ResourceLoader is not using that. In ResourceLoader the media query is declared in the module definition. If you're writing @media rules within your module, you're doing it wrong. Don't do that. When ResourceLoader was written we didn't even consider CSS3's support for nested @media blocks. The fact that it works there is a pure coincidence. If you want to pursue this further though, please open a separate request for that.
