There's an unrelated gerrit change 36683 prompted by bug 42614 which might
affect this, removing some warnings (there's plenty, apparently) and Create a
CentralAuthUser object for a user who is known to be unattached.
Do we now have a worse or better way to track actual SUL failures?

The last two entries in the log you posted are

[13:25:54.590] mw.DestinationChecker::checkUnique error in checkUnique result:
http @
http://10.25.21.82/mediawiki/load.php?debug=falselang=enmodules=ext.uploadWizardskin=vectorversion=20121203T182355Z*:15
[13:25:54.613] mw.Api error:  @
http://10.25.21.82/mediawiki/load.php?debug=falselang=enmodules=ext.uploadWizardskin=vectorversion=20121203T182355Z*:15

Both indicate problems making an API call to your server.

Can you please run the upload wizard with the debug=true option?

Just go to
http://10.25.21.82/mediawiki/index.php/Special:UploadWizard?debug=true
and then got through the upload wizard.

Also, what's the output of

http://10.25.21.82/mediawiki/api.php?action=querytitles=File:YOURFILENAME.YOUREXTENSIONprop=imageinfoiiprop=url|mime|sizeiiurlwidth=150format=jsonfm

where you replace YOURFILENAME by the filename as shown in the Title field,
and replace YOUREXTENION by jpg or jpeg or png, or whatever, as
appropriate for your file? What is the name of the file anyway? Does the
problem always occur or only with a particular file name?

Do you have the API enabled on your wiki? Is the write API enabled? Are uploads
enabled at all?

Also, there's bug 32408: errors in collapsed parts of the form are not shown.
Click on Add categories and more information... to make sure all input fields
are shown. Do any of them have a red border, or is there anything else red?

If you have Firebug installed, I'd also like to see the result of the queries
the UploadWizard does. Go to the UploadWizard on your wiki, then enable
Firebug. Select the Net tab in Firebug. Then go through the UploadWizard.
After you hit the problem, you should examine the last few http requests shown
in Firebug: I'm interested in the last few http requests to URLs beginning with
http://10.25.21.82/mediawiki/api.php?; (POST or GET api.php). Click on the
triangle to the left of the request: Firebug shows you several tabs for the
request. I need the URL and the contents of the Request or Post tabs, and of
the Response tab.

A screenshot would also help. If the page is too long to capture in one
screenshot, see if you can print the page to a PDF, then attach that to this
bug report.

I know that's quite a handful, but since I can't reproduce this problem on my
end, I depend on you to do things if we're to find the cause of this problem.

English Wikipedia main page logged out with obstructionist donation banner,
December 4, 2012

The current fundraising banner (I don't know its name) on the English Wikipedia
doesn't stay at the top of the page when a user scrolls down the page. This is
a problem, as the banner quickly begins to obstruct page content, which is
unacceptable.

Fundraising banners should not follow a user as he or she scrolls through the
page. They should remain at the top of the page as they have in every prior
fundraiser and with every other banner campaign deployed. Screenshot of the
inappropriate behavior attached.

This is a major problem that upsets /thousands/ of Wikipedia readers, even
though the fundraising campaign is enabled just in 5 countries.

I guess that someone would better fix it before the campaign is enabled
worldwide, or there'll be massive trouble and displeasure being actually voiced
by thousands of our readers.

Unfortunately due to a human error, an e-mail message containing private data
of an active Wikimedia user have been posted to the public Wiki Loves Monuments
mailing list (instead of a private mailing list of the international
organisers).

Therefory I hereby request three e-mails to be edited in the archives, removing
the non-public information:

*
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/private/wikilovesmonuments/2012-December/005461.html
*
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/private/wikilovesmonuments/2012-December/005462.html
*
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/private/wikilovesmonuments/2012-December/005463.html

Had that data been published on a wiki, it would've fallen under the terms of
the general Wikimedia oversight policy, so I guess that there shouldn't be any
problems with editing the three e-mails.

For now, I have changed the archives of the mailing list into private, but am
intending to make them public after the data in question is removed from there.

Thanks in advance for your help,

The special page should somehow show which pages on a site are linked to an
item. Preferably this should be done in such a way as to make it easy and
efficient to create new items for missing ones.

The special page could also do an additional pass to check if the items are
complete given the existing sitelinks in the items and the langlinks in the
pages. This could imply that the query to the external site should use a
generator list and not only a basic list.

Screenshot of numbers displayed in Safari

font-size: 0 makes text still visible in Opera 12.11 on OSX 10.8.2. See
screenshot. Seems to work in other browsers I tried (Firefox, Safari, Chrome,
IE9)

Expected behaviour: Just see the progress bar, no numbers.

The progress bars are added very slowly to the project selector in Firefox. It
takes about 10 seconds on my computer to show them all the way up to the bottom
on Firefox 17.0.1. It's instant in Chrome and Safari. It takes about 2 seconds
in Opera.

Santhosh suggests it's because appendTo() is very slow in Firefox, and that
append() should be used.

The cite extension returns the date of last revision instead of the date of the
version the permanent link points to if I cite an older revision.
This seems pretty useless in the Bibliographic details, but it is wrong in
the short citation styles, because there is not defined that this is the last
revision date before the access date.

Yeah, that could be improved. The point is that while we know the number of
edits, that not necessarily is the number of messages. One edit != one message.

We may reasonably assume that if there was one edit, it was one message. But if
there's a second edit, we don't know if that's some amendment of that message,
or a new message, or what. Hence any counting we might do is not quite right
and thus came about this one/several distinction. It could be easily changed to
999, if that is more appropriate for the translators (as a quick fix). Or the
message text could just ignore $1 altogether and always use the plural
(messages).

Some day I guess I'll have to sit down and re-think the way these messages are
constructed and assembled.

If the user forgets to run populateSitesTable.php pollForChanges will give an
error message that makes it hard to debug:

Fatal error: Call to a member function getField() on a non-object in
/srv/devclient/w/extensions/Wikibase/client/includes/ClientChangeHandler.php on
line 125

It would be cool to make the error message more precise or to make
pollForChanges check if populateSitesTable has been run.

I could probably implement seamlessly saving the data in a user .js file in
less time than it took me to write out all these elaborate messages here

Simply do it. jquery.json is a core module (
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/RL/DM#jQuery.json ) for stringifying your data;
if you want something better than a cookie you can use jquery.jStorage

A cookie is sent to the server with each request within the same domain; it has
a very limited storage quota so storing strings can be difficult.

If you can, submit a patch and ask someone you trust to review before the next
round of the personal carousel is driven by the WMF or more fancy ideas like
disallowing quotation marks (so you can't save JSON strings) pop up here.

(In reply to comment #25)
RFC
Reading Krinkle's comment, it sounds like WONTFIX or will be fixed when some
extension is ready in the future. So an RFC won't change this, I guess.

adding sample_muxer as another file required for the encoding might not be so
good, should check if we can get this merged into avconv as an option.

Also this requires audio and video to be in separate files. that most likely
requires some changes to the way transcodes are handled.

Declare wb_terms fields to be binary to avoid confusion about case insensitive
string comparison, etc. For MySQL, instead of the binary charset, we could
also use character set utf8 collate utf8_bin. But binary is probably fine.

Introduce a setting that allows Wikibase to operate even if the term_search_key
column is missing from the wb_terms table. This is useful for sites that can
not update their database schema easily.

Note: Not being able to use term_search_key mans that only exact matches will
be found. That's sad, but acceptable.

 Bug #: 42685
   Summary: Remove the label/description uniqueness constraint for
items
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: WikidataRepo
AssignedTo: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: daniel.kinz...@wikimedia.de
CC: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org,
wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

The constraint that only one item can have a given combination of label and
description per language is nice to have, but hard to enforce: the consistency
requirements need transactional logic, which causes excessive lock retention
and time outs. So, just drop it.

Note that we still need to keep the unique label per language constraint on
properties (and probably also on queries). Maybe we need a dedicated DB table
for these.

[Bug 42685] Remove the label/description uniqueness constraint for items

2012-12-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #1 from Daniel Kinzler daniel.kinz...@wikimedia.de 2012-12-04
14:54:11 UTC ---
The requirement here is not to remove the check for conflicting items upon
save: we can keep that check, as and advisory. But we can't *guarantee*
uniqueness of label/description/language efficiently, and we shouldn't try. So,
updates of the wb_term table should be reviewed to minimize lock retention.

--- Comment #15 from j.nai...@gmail.com 2012-12-04 15:06:21 UTC ---
So i ran alot of stuff. I also attached a screenshot, i understand this is hard
to troubleshoot as you're not able to reproduce the issue.

this is from debug=true:
[07:36:26.237] Error in parsing value for 'margin-left'. Declaration dropped.
@ http://10.25.21.82/mediawiki/index.php/Special:UploadWizard?debug=true
[07:36:26.237] Error in parsing value for 'margin-top'. Declaration dropped. @
http://10.25.21.82/mediawiki/index.php/Special:UploadWizard?debug=true

This is what i have listed in my localsettings.php:

require_once( $IP/extensions/UploadWizard/UploadWizard.php );
$wgApiFrameOptions = 'SAMEORIGIN';
$wgUseInstantCommons = true;
$wgEnableAPI = true;
$wgEnableWriteAPI = true;
$wgExtensionFunctions[] = function() {
$GLOBALS['wgUploadNavigationUrl'] = SpecialPage::getTitleFor(
'UploadWizard' )-getLocalURL();
return true;
};
$wgUploadWizardConfig = array(
'debug' = false,
   'autoCategory' = 'Uploaded with UploadWizard',
   'feedbackPage' = 'FeedbackTest2',
  'altUploadForm' = 'Special:Upload',
   'fallbackToAltUploadForm' = false,
   'enableFormData' = true, # Should FileAPI uploads be used on supported
browsers?
   'enableMultiFileSelect' = true,
   'skipTutorial' = true
);

this is what i get from running file name.your extension:

Fatal error: Class 'ApiQueryORM' not found in C:\Program
Files\EasyPHP-12.1\www\mediawiki\extensions\UploadWizard\api\ApiQueryUploadCampaigns.php
on line 16

i'm using mediawiki 1.20.1 so api write is enabled by default, and i have it
included in my localsettings.php to enable it.

no errors appear in the colapsed fields. i tried checking those too.

this is what firebug spit out, though i don't know if it's what you need:

--- Comment #5 from Richard Guk richardg...@yahoo.com 2012-12-04 15:35:34 UTC

This bug is live the current version and still needs fixing.

At present, a minor update will indefinitely suppress all subsequent watchlist
emails for that page (until the user visits it or resets the visit flag, which
might never happen if the user is unaware of this bug). It is perverse that a
minor update has such a major lasting effect on the email flag.

(In reply to comment #4)
 This patch would (probably) be trivial to update. Downside is this will break
 the bold there are updates available marker on watchlist (or actually not so
 much break it, but make its behaviour kind of weird for minor edits).

If there has to be a choice between fixing this bug and preserving the above
formatting, it is more important to ensure that users are emailed reliably by
fixing this bug.

From a user's perspective, the bug is causing pages to unpredictably and
silently drop off their email notification list. That is an appalling user
experience.

   OTOH the
 updated marker should probably be re-thought on a variety of fronts... (not
 user controllable, not reset from email links half the time, not clear to user
 what it even means).

Watchlists would be much more intuitive if they only showed changes *since* a
user-defined timestamp. That way, a user could click a button after checking
their watchlist, and return at a future time to see all subsequent changes,
without having to adjust the days parameter or remember how long it was since
they had last checked it. (Similar functionality already exists in
[[Special:RecentChanges]], e.g. [[Special:RecentChanges?from=20121204150102]],
except that the from timestamp is not stored.) Is there a separate bug open
for that?

AddRowIDs.sql currently uses MySQL specific syntax. But it's unclear how to add
a primary key column in sqlite at all.

Adding term_row_id field to table wb_terms ...A database query syntax error has
occurred.
The last attempted database query was:
ALTER TABLE wb_items_per_site
 ADD ips_row_id
 INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT

from within function DatabaseBase::sourceFile(
/DATA/var/www/daniel/wikidata/extensions/Wikibase/repo/includes/store/sql/AddRowIDs.sql
).
Database returned error 1: Cannot add a PRIMARY KEY column

[Bug 4903] Add show new changes starting from links to Watchlist and Newpages

This would be a relatively simple change to [[Special:Watchlist]] that would
greatly improve watchlist functionality.

Tracking visited pages is of little relevance to users with navigation popups
enabled for diff checking.

For most users, the point of the watchlist is to show changes since the
watchlist was last checked. But that currently requires the user to remember
how long ago the page was last visited (adjusting the days parameter
accordingly to reflect the number of whole or fractional days).

RecentChanges already allows pages to be restricted to those changed since a
specified timestamp ([[Special:RecentChanges?from=20121204150102]]). So there
is already a working proof-of-concept.

It should therefore be simple to add the from condition to Special:Watchlist.

All that is then needed is to save a Watchlist from timestamp in user
preferences and update it to the most recent listed timestamp whenever a
reset button is pressed on the watchlist page.

I think users would be delighted by such a simple but useful change.

(In reply to comment #5)
 Watchlists would be much more intuitive if they only showed changes *since* a
 user-defined timestamp. That way, a user could click a button after checking
 their watchlist, and return at a future time to see all subsequent changes,
 without having to adjust the days parameter or remember how long it was
 since
 they had last checked it. (Similar functionality already exists in
 [[Special:RecentChanges]], e.g. [[Special:RecentChanges?from=20121204150102]],
 except that the from timestamp is not stored.) Is there a separate bug open
 for that?

I have raised the above suggestion under Bug 4903.

Anyway, the email bug here needs fixing in its own right.

 I think it could be solved by a meta sysop.

Probably. I think it's simply a matter of changing a CSS position declaration.
The problem is probably more social than technical.

 Browser info welcome...

I was testing with Mac OS X/Safari last evening. I'm experiencing the exact
same behavior on Windows 7/Firefox today.

Are you unable to reproduce the issue? That's the only way I can see how

[Bug 35233] Mobile sites being indexed by search engines

2012-12-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35233

--- Comment #10 from MZMcBride b...@mzmcbride.com 2012-12-04 17:19:43 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #9)
 Google's recommendation is to use rel=canonical, i.e. to allow crawlers to
 crawl the mobile site but to signal that the content is substantially
 identical
 to the desktop version. They're recommending for it to be crawler-visible to
 pick up mobile-optimized pages and serve those directly to users of Google
 mobile search.

 I'm fine with giving this a go. Supposedly Bing, Yahoo! and Google all support
 rel=canonical to filter duplicate content.

 We'll still see increased crawler traffic relative to noindex but this should
 help to reliably exclude m. pages from the desktop index.

When I look at the page source of http://en.m.wikipedia.org/ currently, I
notice two things:

meta name=robots content=noindex,nofollow/

and...

link rel=canonical href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page;

So what is needed to resolve this bug? Simply removing the noindex/nofollow
HTML output (presumably this is behind a PHP configuration variable)?

when saving pages (displays at bottom of page), and occasionally also getting

which breaks the page.
On some pages I also get

Warning: json_encode(): recursion detected in
C:\inetpub\wikiwhereis.com\live\includes\json\FormatJson.php on line 48

at the top of the page.

I can't remember if I started the wiki with 1.8b2 or 1.7, but I know I didn't
have the error in 1.8b2. I've tried php SMW_setup.php --delete, and refreshing
the data with no use. I think the error may have to do with Semantic forms
arrays being saved onto page templates, but that's just a guess.

There's your problem. MW 1.20.1 doesn't have APIQueryORM, but the UploadWizard
you got most probably comes from master and expects it.

You can fix that easily for your install by addding
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/10378/ to your installation: that adds the
missing class APIQueryORM and adds it to the autoloader.

You don't need to use GIT for that:
* download the missing file from
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/cat/10378%2C7%2Cincludes/api/ApiQueryORM.php%5E0
(zipped), unzip it and put it into C:\Program
Files\EasyPHP-12.1\www\mediawiki\includes\api

* Add the line highlighted at
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/10378/7/includes/AutoLoader.php to
C:\Program Files\EasyPHP-12.1\www\mediawiki\includes\AutoLoader.php.

That should do it.

This is possibly my fault. Long long ago we wanted LQT to look a tad different

@Jeroen: the only way users can get the UploadWizard extension from
www.mediawiki.org is by downloading from GIT master. The extension distributor
doesn't work at all for UW. So how are people supposed to get an UploadWizard
extension that works with their MW install? It'll only work if they run based
on core master...

I suppose most users would not know how to download the right snapshot from
