Editing MediaWiki:Pagetitle-view-mainpage works.
To use the actual page name or the title set by {{DISPLAYTITLE:...}} I changed
it to a contain a single - (without quotes). That worked fine.

The html title doesn't change. The bug only occurs on the site configured in Mediawiki:MainPage. It's definetly not a browser cache issue.
