I haven't found the best way to fix this yet, but the WinJS.UI.SemanticZoom
control (seanticZoomer) is causing this to break.
If you remove this control touch selection works again.

You are correct sir, I can't get tap-to-select working here on my Surface RT,
while it does work in IE.

Mouse selection works for me but not text selection via touch.
