Web browser: --- Bug ID: 59709 Summary: "Permission error"/"Not logged in" default pages should include log in menu Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: Special pages Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org Reporter: dmcde...@cox.net Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- Default "permission error"/"not logged in" pages are very unhelpful, and even scary (especially for permission error). When you reach this page just because you are unregistered, the message does not even direct you to sign in or create an account, it just tells you you are not allowed to access the page because "The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Users." (Which is awful wiki jargon.) Ideally, such error messages should include the login menu (from Special:UserLogin) directly in the message, so you can log in or create a new account without leaving the page. This, of course, only applies to permission errors where the only permission needed is being a registered user. Sample logged-out error messages: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Emailuser/Username https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Watchlist, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=dfwdsv&action=edit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MyCourses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:OAuthManageMyGrants https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MovePage/Sky_Spear -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
